Chapter One:
Brief History / Background of the Company / Company Profile

Pamantasan ng Cabuyao is a University located at Katapatan Village,

Banay-Banay, City of Cabuyao, Laguna. It was founded by the former Mayor
Proceso “Etok” D. Aguillo through the enactment of Municipal Ordinance
Number 2003-59, approved on April 16, 2003. The university was built to help
the underprivileged youths of Cabuyao and aid them to have a quality education
in a more affordable tuition fees.

Before the establishment of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, there was a satellite

campus of Laguna State Polytechnic University at the Cabuyao National High
School. Its operation was through a memorandum of agreement between the
LSPC president and the Cabuyao municipal mayor. It started in 1993 and ended
on March 31, 2003 because of a protest which had been found true.

This resulted to the establishment of Cabuyao Community College. Having

anticipated the closure of LSPC-Cabuyao, faculty members assisted the office of
the mayor with the model school for local college, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng
Maynila (PLM) president, Dr. Benjamin Tayabas. He personally attended to the
work of putting up a university. He suggested that Pamantasan ng Cabuyao
should be the name. On April 15, 2003, the Sangguniang Bayan enacted
Municipal Ordinance No. 3002-059 and was approved by the former Mayor
Proceso D. Aguillo on the next day.

Pamantasan ng Cabuyao was inaugurated on July 31, 2003, the birthday of

its founding mayor and it was personally inaugurated by the former President
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on June 19, 2003 on the occasion of the 107 t h birthday
of Dr. Jose Rizal.

Today, under the new leadership of Hon. Isidro L. Hemedes, Jr. and the
assistance of Atty. Mel Gecolea, education reforms have been introduced, new
and better systems have been put in place and old practices have been put into
sound and solid written policies and procedures.

In a short time, Pamantasan ng Cabuyao has been visited by other LGU’s

that are intending to establish local colleges to pattern their initiatives after that
of PnC.

The university mission is “To equip individuals with knowledge, skills

and values that will enable them to contribute to the development of the local
community and the country as a whole.”

And the university vision is “A premiere educational local institution of

higher learning, developing globally – competitive and value – laden
professionals and leaders instrumental to community development and nation –
building.”

Chapter Two:
Reports Compilation (Weekly Progress)

Week 1
November 18 – 21, 2014

ACTIVITY:

My OJT started on the second day of the week, it was Tuesday. I did not
have a hard time in associating with the people in the cooperative section of
Pamanatasan ng Cabuyao because he was also staying in the IT Laboratory
where I have been a student assistant last semester. So, I knew him before the
start of my OJT. My first week was not so hard. We started cleaning the
cooperative store to have more space since I will be staying there for almost
four months. We sorted out the items in the store and place the computer in the
appropriate place for the encoding of the receipts. I think I will enjoy this task
because I really love to type.

Week 2
November 24 – 28, 2014

ACTIVITY:

This is the second week of my OJT. This week, I started encoding the
receipts. The receipts contain the payments of the students who buy items in the
cooperative. Also, it contains the payments for the cooperative shares and loans
of the teachers. I started encoding receipts from the month of April. The
cooperative had also received a delivery of the new uniforms, so, we sorted the
delivered items. I am staying at the cooperative store and I am telling the
students if Mr. Lasian is not here, they could just come back for some other time
because Mr. Lasian has something to do outside. Mrs. Cuizon comes to check me
in the cooperative store.

ACTIVITY:

In the third week of my OJT, I continue encoding the receipts and I

finished the first 100 booklets of the receipts for the year 2014. Then, I started
encoding the second set of the receipts. I had one companion from CBAA and he
helped me in doing the encoding. I do also sorting of the items in the
cooperative store in preparation for the inventory of the items. I am staying at
the cooperative store to take care of the items there. Sometimes, I am going to
the IT Laboratory to print some documents needed in the cooperative.

ACTIVITY:

In the fourth week of my OJT, I am still staying at the cooperative store

when Mr. Lasian has something to do outside. I continue encoding the second
set of the receipts for 2014. I will be encoding 100 booklets. I am encoding it
for the summary and inventory purposes. This week, Mr. Lasian also permitted
me to sell ID pins and cases to the students. The students who will buy pins and
cases will be signing in the record book and the payments will be placed in a
separate box, different from the box where other item payments are placed.
There are different boxes to where the payments for the items are being placed.

December 15 – 18, 2014

ACTIVITY:

This is my fifth week of OJT. This is the last week of classes for the year
2014, so this is the last week of my OJT this year. We will be having our
Christmas vacation starting December 19, 2014. Since this would be the last
week of my OJT this year, I need to finish encoding the second set of 100
booklets of receipts. Fortunately, I finished all of it on time. Then, I started
making summaries of the receipts that I had encoded. I summarized each item on
how many were bought and I did also the summary to get the total sales for all
the items each month.

ACTIVITY:

This is the first week of my OJT for the year 2015. This is my sixth week
in my OJT. The summary for the inventory are not yet done when we had our
vacation last December 2014. So this week, we have to finish making the
summary because we will be having the inventory for the items that the
cooperative still have on hand. I make the summary of how many items were
bought for the year of 2014. Each item that is being sold in the cooperative store
has its own summary of sold items. I did also the summary of how much is the
total sales for each item. On Saturday, we started counting the items in the
cooperative store. We placed all the items in the OSA office for a day to count
them all. And we finished counting them on the same day together with the two
new OJTs. Mrs. Quizon, the treasurer of the cooperative is telling me what to do
with the summary. So, I need to see her in the library.

This week, we started getting the items back to the cooperative store. I
now have two other companions as OJT in the Cooperative Department. They are
ACT students and they helped in counting the items in the cooperative and also
they are helping us putting the items back into their places. They are the ones
getting the items and I am placing the items in the shelves and sorting them.
Now, I am not alone in the cooperative store when Mr. Lasian is doing other
things outside. Since the inventory is not yet fully done, there are summaries for
the inventory that I am doing. Mrs. Quizon is telling me what kinds of
summaries I will be doing. I am preparing them and let her check the summaries

ACTIVITY:

On this week, my eighth week of my OJT, I am still doing the summaries

and now, Mr. Marucot, the cooperative president, told me to do the summary for
the IDs that were made in 2014. I stayed in the cooperative store to finish the
summary because Mrs. Quizon needs to report in the BIR. This week, I also
started encoding the receipts for the year 2015. I need to encode them on time so
that it will not be hard to encode when the receipts become too many and so that
we will be updated when it comes to encoding the receipts. I also checked the
receipts that Mr. Lasian had encoded for the purchased items that they bought
last year. I also printed the headings that we will be pasting in the 24 column
paper that will be passed in the BIR.

ACTIVITY:

This is my ninth week in my OJT. It’s a bit different than other weeks
because now, I am really staying at the University Library. Mrs. Cuizon is
staying in the library because she is also one of our librarians. She wants us to
stay there so that she can monitor what we are doing. We are pasting the
headings that I printed in the 24 columnar papers. After that, the other OJT
started to write the receipts in the columnar paper. I knew that there is another
OJT there, she is Mary Grace. I have a new friend. When she was absent, I
started writing the receipts. I am writing the names, date and the item
purchased. These receipts are the same receipts that I had encoded last year. We
are now writing them to be reported in the BIR for auditing.

ACTIVITY:

This week, we continue pasting the headings for the documents which will
be passed to the BIR. I am also doing the writing of the items purchased in the
columnar paper. We will be doing this every day because we have 200 booklets
to write. Sometimes, I go the IT laboratory to have a print out of the headings. I
am printing it at the back of scratch papers. Mrs. Cuizon sometimes asked me to
do some paper works like typing a letter. I learned a lot of things in writing a
letter such as the right positioning of the signatories when you are writing a
letter. I think this could help me in my work in the future. She did also ask me
to check some of the receipts which are the expenses in the cooperative. I did
also duty in the library on Saturday to write in the columnar paper.

University Week, Artsfest and Sportsfest. I was not involved in any game, so I
decided to have duty this week to finish my work. Just like last week, I am
pasting the headings in the columnar paper and writing information on it. I also
checked the books purchased by the school and prepare the pulling out of other
books. Also, we have received the delivery of the new set of ID lace for the

This is the thirteenth week of my OJT. I did paper works this week.
Sometimes, Mrs. Cuizon asked me to paste the receipts in bond papers for
auditing. There are two CBAA students auditing the expenses and in the latter
part of the week, that was Thursday, I found out that there is something wrong
with the file I gave to them, so on Friday, I stayed in the cooperative store to fix
it and I gave it to them. I still continue to write the items purchased by the
students in the columnar paper. I do also write the titles of the books purchased
in one of the publishing company. I also go to OJT on Saturday to continue
writing the receipt information. The twins are also there writing the receipt
information. Then, I checked the receipts that we will be asking Mrs. Cuizon for
confirmation. There are some receipts that we could not understand. That is why
we will be asking her.

ACTIVITY:

This is my fourteenth and last week in my OJT. I need to finish the things
that Mrs. Cuizon had asked me to do. I continue to write the receipt information
on the columnar paper. The other OJTs are also writing when Mrs. Cuizon is
asking me to do other things. There are some of the receipts that we could not
understand. We asked Mrs. Cuizon about it. She gave me a copy of the names
who bought cloth. I am checking all those names when there are confusions with
the receipt information that Angela is writing. And one thing memorable in my
last week is when I went to the bank to deposit payment and update the accounts
of the cooperative. It was really exciting because I went there alone and
definitely, I learned a lot with that experience.

Chapter Three:
Assessment of Practicum Program

What I have learned from the experience?

I have learned a lot of things during my OJT period. Being punctual is the
first thing, because before, I was always late to my appointments but because I
need to fulfill 500 hours in my OJT, I pursued myself to be always on time in
arriving at the school, so I could get 8 hours every day. And later on, I get used
in waking up early and preparing early to go to school.

Another thing is how to get along with the other people. Before, I am
afraid to be with other people and I always wanted to be with my friends. But in
my OJT period, none of my friends are taking OJT in the same department that I
am in. So, I need to mingle with the personnel in the cooperative store. At first,
I did not enjoy being alone, but because I love what I am doing, which is
encoding, I enjoyed it together with the music I am always playing in the store.
And as time goes by, I learned to chat with the other people in the store, Mr.
Lasian and the other two OJT there. I did also make friends with the other OJT’s
in the other departments of our school. And I learned that one should not be
always dependent on the people that you get used to be with because there will
always come a time that you need to go on your own and open to be friends with
others.

I also learned some things about business. Because I did the summaries
and helped them in the inventory, I have now the idea on how to run a business.
I know that this is quite not related in the field that I am in, but, I think this
could also help me in my field especially in making a system regarding the
inventory or making a system for a business, if one day, there would be some
people asking me to make one. I could use this learning to make better system
for a business.

My experiences with people around me

Mr. Lasian is the personnel in the cooperative store that I am with. At

first, I am not comfortable because I do not know his attitude yet. And he is
younger than me, so I do not know how to approach him. Though I also see him
in the IT department where I’ve been a Student Assistant before, we are not
close. I am not talking so much in the store, not because I do not want to talk to
him, but because I am encoding and I do not want to talk when I am doing
something. But when he is asking or telling me something, I am answering it and
I am listening to him. Most of the time, we are not talking. But as time goes, I
started to talk more. I knew that Mr. Lasian is fun to be with. He is kind and
thoughtful because he sometimes, give me food. He is a happy person.

Together with us are the two other OJT who started in January of 2015.
They are Ervin and Jade. Because they talk more than me, I did not have a hard
time to mingle with them. They have a lot of stories that I enjoy to listen. They
are also kind and friendly because on the first time we worked together, they are
not shy to talk to me. We easily become friends.

I have been also with Mrs. Quizon, the librarian and also cooperative
personnel. She is good to me when I am staying in the library. She is always
smiling. When we are wrong, of course she will be reprimanding us but after
that, she will go back to smiling. I feel comfortable in staying in her office. I
did not have a hard time in mingling with the people in the library. Mrs. Rubio
is also one of our librarians that I am with in the library. She is so jolly but she
knows when to be serious at things.

I also knew in the library the other girl who is also an OJT, Mary Grace.
There is also a twin there. They are Angela and Angeli. They are so quiet so I
am always talking to them to let them feel that I want to be their friend. They
are now talking to me like friends. I enjoy interviewing them with regards to
their twin things because I am really curious about it.

The most memorable event during my OJT

During the almost four months of my OJT, I had lot of experiences. I

stayed in different places and I did many things. Even if I stayed in our school
premises, I have learned and experienced many things.

The inventory that we did on January was the most memorable event
during the period of my OJT. That was the first time that I go to my OJT on
Saturday. That was also the time I met new friends, the new OJTs who helped us
in getting and counting the items in the cooperative store.

That day was a really tiring day. Because the cooperative store was small,
we need to have a bigger room for the inventory. Mr. Lasian and the new OJTs
moved all the items from the cooperative store to the Office of Student Affairs
(OSA), which is bigger. I was waiting at the OSA to count every item that they
are moving. It was a bit hard because I need to be sure with all the counts. I am
not good in remembering things, so I need to write everything from time to time.
That time, the back of my knee was also aching but I need to sometimes bend it
to get and count the items on the floor. That made my work harder. But I don’t
want to tell them because I want to help them in the inventory. Besides, this is
part of the training program that I am in. so I continue counting the items. They
helped me in the latter part when all the items from the cooperative store had
been moved.

I had also a free lunch on that day. I ate rice and adobong baboy in the IT
Laboratory together with Mr. Lasian and other IT laboratory personnel and SAs.
We finished counting all the items at 3:00pm. That was before our speech
started and we did it because we helped one another.

PAMANTASAN NG CABUYAO
Katapatan Homes, Brgy. Banay-Banay, City of Cabuyao, Laguna 4025

What I can recommend for the improvement of the OJT program?

When the OJT period is coming, everyone must be prepared. It is a good

practice that the students find their own company to be their training place to at
least train them in applying for a job. When the time comes that the students
could not find any company for them, the school provides them a company.

The company that an OJT student is in would be better if the training of

the student in that company is related to his/her course and skills. This would
help the students to fully apply what they have learned in the years of studying.
Also, if they are working in the field that they have studied, they will not have a
hard time in adapting to the new environment that they are in. They will surely
learn new things in line with their field and improve their skills.

I also think that it would be better if the students are constantly monitored
by the administrator of the OJT to make sure that the students are in good
condition, also, to know if they are good in the company that they are in. This
would help the school to find out if there is any problem with the training and
probably, solve the problem before it get worse. Sometimes, the students are
afraid to tell the problem because they are afraid to be scolded. So, if the school
administrators of OJT are visiting them and the students feel their importance,
maybe the student would be able to open things about their training.

22
PAMANTASAN NG CABUYAO
Katapatan Homes, Brgy. Banay-Banay, City of Cabuyao, Laguna 4025

My advice to those who will take their OJT in the near future

OJT students are always both excited and nervous when taking their
training. First, students should know their position to the company that they are
in. One should not be so aloof, but not also so close. They should know how to
mingle with the other employees but they should also know their limitations.

The students must also follow the company rule and regulations. Even if
they are OJTs, they are not exemption to the rule. So, one must know the
company policies and always follow the rules.

As an OJT, one should be good in the company that they are in. Students
should always remember that they are carrying the name of the school and future
OJTs will be affected with the traits that the current OJTs will be showing.

Be friendly. OJTs will be staying in the company for three to four months.
In that period, do not be loners. There are other employees that also exist. So, to
get in to the new environment that you are staying, you must learn to approach
everyone nicely.

And just be you. Nothing is more than showing who you are.
