What is Project Quality Management?

Quality Planning
A process of creating a plan to ensure quality early in the project.

During this process, you will find various documents such as a project quality
policies, procedures, roles, and responsibilities. When creating a plan you,
should ask yourself three questions.

1. Who is in charge?
2. Where are we going?
3. How are we going to get there?
Quality Control
Quality control is a process where the project team uses various tools to
Analyze performance and activities.
Tools that can be used to analyze performance and activities are:
● Histograms
● Ishikawa
● Scatter Diagrams
● Control Chart
● Check sheet
● Pareto Chart
● Run Chart
Cost of Quality
By ensuring quality in a product or service, you are minimizing defects,
rework, and creating higher productivity which essentially will pay off over
time rather than spending more money in the long run.

Misunderstandings about cost of quality are:

● Is an expensive Process
● Time consuming

Overall, by ensuring quality you will save money and time in the long run.
Customer Focus
● Quality should be guided by the customer and what they wish to receive
from the project.
● Interview prospective customers.
● Identify their must haves.

● “In the contemporary view, customer requirements define quality, not products or processes. In other words, it is not
what you do or how you do it, but who uses it that counts. Quality is in the perception of the customer” (Rose, 2014).
Quality Assurance
● Building Quality into the project plan.
● Ensuring that we are utilizing the tools that we have available at each
milestone in the PQM.
● Saves resources by identifying mistakes for correction earlier in the
project plan.

● “Quality assurance is the application of a set of defined activities that provide confidence that project performance
will conform to project requirements. Quality assurance activities are the things the project team will do to guide
project performance when implementing the project plan” (Rose, 2014).
Continuous Improvements
● Kaizen: The Japanese word that has come to mean continuous
improvement.
● Looking for opportunities to develop our weaknesses into strengths and
to be even better at the areas that we are already good at.
● Pursuit of the head of the industry.

● “Quality improvement is a deliberate process that uses objective measurement and data. All quality improvement
begins with data collection. The Japanese word kaizen (meaning continual, incremental improvement) is widely used
in quality-related activities” (Rose, 2014).
Why PQM is Beneficial to the Health of the Organization
● Higher Customer Satisfaction Delivering quality is crucial whether you're creating video games for a huge user base or working one-on-one
with a clients to offer a personalized service.

● Better products, in general, there are no drawbacks to surpassing expectations and providing superior quality items, even if a consumer is
content with a product of middling quality.

● Higher productivity, being productive involves more than just working quickly and well. It's about fostering enduring bonds among team
members, enhancing communication, and enhancing internal operations.

● Financial expansion, project managers will always work to offer high-quality results at reasonable pricing.
Key Elements of PQM
Three primary elements of project quality management (PQM) are essential to
the process.

The elements are:


● Quality Planning
● Quality Assurance
● Quality Control
PQM Analytical Tools
Check Sheet: Histogram:

● Define the events and data. ● Select a measurement such as


size, speed, time, etc.
● Decide who, what, when,
● Collect the data
where, how, and why. ● Prepare a frequency table.
