Chapter 1: General description

CS3000 system
The CS3000 is a computerised, fully addressable analogue fire alarm system
with analogue detectors. The detectors are automatically tested and
continuously supervised by the central unit. In the event of fire the appropriate
output channels are activated controlling fire damping measures. At preset
fixed intervals the system actively checks that all connected units are in
working order and that the contents of the system is according to its
configuration.

The fire alarm system may consist of one or several central units and control
units, which are inter-connected into a larger system. Conventional detectors
and sensors of closing type can be connected to the CS3000 system, in
addition to the analogue detectors.

The operator supervises and operates the system from one or more control
units, which normally are placed at convenient locations, separated from the
central unit.

The different central and control units communicates with each other on two
RS-422 channels, the system loop.

The central unit and its detectors communicate on two-wire loops. The
communication method is based on frequency modulation (FSK). Each
detector is connected to the loop via a specially developed integrated circuit,
the IDA, for supervision and communication. The detectors are normally
power supplied from the loop. The loop can be either a single-ended branch
line, a two-way closed loop or a two-way closed loop with branch lines.

A total of 190 loops may be connected to the system with a possibility to

connect an extra 400 conventional sections. One loop may have a total of max.
150 analogue section units.

This Reference manual describes the CS3000 fire alarm installation in a

marine environment.

3. Central unit
The central unit controls and supervises the CS3000 fire alarm system. The
central unit includes different PCB boards with specific tasks and a power
supply unit.

4. Inputs/Outputs
Various devices can be connected to the inputs and outputs:
• Fire extinguishing control. The CS3000 system can control the release of
fire extinguishing medium such as carbondioxide, water via a sprinkler
system, etc.
• Closing of fire doors. The fire door closing function can be programmed to
close doors only in the actual area of a fire.
• Ventilation. At a fire alarm the ventilation system can be totally or
partially stopped. The smoke may also be directed along a special smoke
evacuation route instead of the normal air way.
• External fault signal. When this signal is active the system acts in a pre-
programmed way.
• Alarm bells and sirens
• Digital inputs
• Relay outputs

5. External computer
All information in the fire alarm system can be transferred to an external
computer.

6. Power supply unit

The power supply unit includes rectifier and rechargeable batteries. The
capacity of the batteries is adjusted to the requirements of the installation and
the authorities.

7. Optical mimic
An optical mimic is used to outline the different decks on a vessel. In the
mimic, LEDs indicate the fire alarm, thereby giving an immediate visual
location of the fire alarm.

8. Loops
Different types and numbers of fire detectors are connected to the loops. The
number of loops depends on the locations.

9. Interface
For connection of conventional digital fire alarm sections to the system.
Reference Manual Chapter 1: System definition 1-4
Salwico CS3000

Central unit
The central unit contains different types of PCBs, which are placed in one or
more 19" racks. The circuit boards of the system are designed in accordance
with the European Standard.

Each central unit contains one alarm processor board, a number of loop
processor boards and one relay board. The central unit may also, as an option,
include a communication board and one or more input/output boards.

The LPK and SPK communicate on an internal communication channel, which

is complemented with hard-ware connected signals for the more important
functions. The external and internal communication channels are separated
from each other, which implies that should a fault occur on the external
channel it will have no effect on the internal channel, and vice versa.

The loop processor board (SPK-2)

The loop processor board contains, apart from the processor part itself, two
transmission units and two receiving units for handling one detector loop each.
The board has DC/DC-converters of its own, capable of keeping the loops at
their operating voltages, even if the input voltage should drop.

The alarm processor board (LPK-2)

The alarm processor board is the supervisor of the central unit. It contains,
apart from the processor part itself, also a real time clock. It also includes some
external functions, for example:

• Communication with external computers and printers via a RS232 board

• Communication with fire fighting personnel
• Control of external components via an output board
• Information of external activities via an input board

The relay board (ARK-2)

The relay board contains programmable relay outputs for external alarms, such
as sirens, bells, fan stops, door closing etc.

The operating panel is used to supervise and operate the system and it includes
an alpha-numerical display, a key-pad, function keys, command keys, fault
keys, list keys and indicators. For security reasons and for quick function,
some important functions have been given separate keys. All other functions
are menu oriented. The alpha-numerical display is used as an interface
between the operator and the system, and it is used to inform and guide the
operator when using the different functions on the operating panel. The status
of the system is also displayed on the alphanumerical display.

Power supply unit

The power unit CSS-3300 supplies the fire alarm system with the necessary
power, either from the mains, from batteries or from another emergency
source.

The power unit is under continuous supervision and control by the central unit,
which controls voltages, currents and certain faults. Important status data are
indicated by LEDs on the power unit.

Loops and sections

Each two wire detector loop is connected to a loop processor in the central
unit. The communication with the connected section units on each loop is
handled by the central unit. The loop can be a single fed branch line, a double
fed loop or a double fed loop with branch lines. Different types of fire
detectors may be connected to the section. Normally their alarm levels are pre-
set according to valid standards. The following detectors and other units that
can be connected to a section:

• Smoke detectors of ionisation or optical type

• Heat detectors of maximal or differential type
• Combined detectors of ionisation and heat type
• Flame detectors of UV type (IR-type)
• Manual call points of different kinds
• Interfaces for sections with digital closing detectors, allowing existing
fire alarm systems to be expanded without any new cable installation
• Other types of alarm or detection systems.

Each section unit is connected to the loop via a communication module, the
IDA, which also contains the main address of the unit. A total of 150 detectors
and manual call points can be connected per loop and a total of 190 loops can
be connected to the system.

13. Single fed loop

A loop where only one end is connected to the central unit. Branch lines and
sub loops can be connected to this type of loop.

14. Flame detector

There are two types of flame detectors: IR type and UV type, which are
sensitive to infra-red and ultra-violet radiation respectively.

15. Sub loop

A sub-loop is equal to a loop with one common address, with conventional
heat detectors.

16. Conventional heat detector

Conventional detector with two states, normal condition and alarm condition.
Reference Manual Chapter 1: System definition 1 - 10
Salwico CS3000

Detectors
The central unit automatically identifies which type of detector or other unit
that is connected to an address. The address is set, at the installation, with a
switch in each detector. The alarm levels are stored in each detector. When a
detector reaches alarm status, its IDA gives a priority signal to the central unit
and transfers actual alarm data. The central unit acknowledges the message.

Should the central unit not return an acknowledgement within a certain time,
the transmission will be repeated a certain number of times. If, however,
contact still is not established, which might depend on a fault in the loop
processor, the IDA of the detector will by itself start a procedure, which will
result in a general fire alarm in the central unit.

All detectors on the loops are supervised. Each detector is polled and checked
by a special test program to evaluate the status of each detector.

RS-232 communication
The CS3000 also includes two RS-232 channels. All the communication
parameters are set in a special program, the Definition program, before the
start of the system.

Chapter 2: Definitions
General definitions
Normal status
At normal status the units have the same status as after an initialisation, except
that there are no alarms, faults or abnormal conditions for the units. The inputs
and the outputs have returned to normal conditions. The system is said to be in
normal status if it has not been put manually into any other status.

Cold start
At cold start the unit is initialised and it then returns to normal status, as is the
case for instance after power-on. The current status is thereafter collected and
all deviations from normal status are reported.

Warm start
At a warm start the software restarts, i.e. the units return to normal status but
fire alarms and faults still exist. All states different from normal status is
reported.

Service status
When the system is in service status access is given to additional service
functions.

Disconnected status
A disconnected unit is functionally disconnected from the system and it can
not generate any status changes.

Control unit definitions

Normal status
The control unit is in normal status when the alpha-numerical display shows
the text CS3000 CONTROL UNIT, the time of day and, above the F4 key, the
text Menu. If there are any active fire alarms or any faults that are not
acknowledged, those are displayed instead of the above mentioned text. The
fire alarms have in this case, as always, the highest priority.

All commands are available in normal status.

Active fire alarm

An active fire alarm is an alarm that has not been reset.

Chapter 3: System description

A CS3000 fire alarm system always comprises at least one central unit and one
control unit and they communicate with each other on the system loop.
Additional control units and central units can be connected to this loop. One
central unit is always the main central. If there are more central units
connected, they are regarded as sub-centrals. The main central unit controls the
communication on the system loop, i.e. the communication with sub-centrals
and control units. Fire alarms, fault messages and other system status are
displayed on the control units. The whole system can be operated from the
control units. The system definition is downloaded into each central unit. A
system definition includes information about control conditions for outputs,
physical configuration and certain function parameters.

Each central unit contains an alarm processor board (LPK-2), that controls and
supervises all other PCBs in that central unit. The central unit also contains
control PCBs for the detector loops (SPK-2).

Basic functions
Cold start

A cold start is performed after the system definition is downloaded into the
system. Different actions will take place in different units in the system.

Unit Action
SPK A warm start is performed on all the section units on
the section(s) concerned. All information except fire
alarms and faults are erased. As a result all the
disconnections for the central unit disappear.
Central unit A warm start is performed on all the section(s) on the
actual central unit. A cold start is performed on the
sub-central and the main central. All information
except fire alarms and faults are erased. As a result all
disconnections for the cold starting central unit
disappear and the output status may temporarily return
to normal status.
Control unit A warm start is performed on all the central units. All
disconnections disappear in the whole system and the
output status may temporarily return to normal status.
Fire alarms and faults are displayed as new events in
the control unit.

Warm start
A warm start is performed for the unit and it passes the warm start on to its
sub-units.

Disconnections
Reference Manual Chapter 3: System description 3-2
Salwico CS3000

Disconnections are divided into two categories: electrical isolation

disconnection and functional disconnection, which are dealt with in slightly
different ways.
Electrical isolation disconnection
An electrical isolation disconnection can only be performed on a loop. The
disconnected loop returns to normal status. When the disconnected loop is
reconnected it will warm start.

Functional disconnection
The functional disconnections are divided into three different levels and are
either manually/centrally initiated or locally initiated. Disconnections may
exist on all three levels simultaneously. A unit is regarded as disconnected if it
is disconnected on one level. Overlapping intervals of disconnected units on
the same level are not permitted. A disconnected unit will not generate fire
alarms, faults, abnormal conditions or any other status changes

LEVEL DESIGNATION TYPE

1 Manual disconnection Manual
2 Time-controlled disconnection Manual
3 Local disconnection Local

The different types of disconnections are described below:

Manual
A manual disconnected section unit will first get normal status and thereafter
disconnected status, i.e. all alarms and faults are cleared.

Local
A local disconnected section unit will get disconnected status immediately, the
fire alarms and faults are not cleared.

General on disconnections
A section unit can always be disconnected, regardless if it answers or not. If
the address(es) to be disconnected should not exist, a "missing unit" message is
shown on the display.

Controlling the system

The control unit can be programmed to operate only on certain central units.
Status is only displayed for the central units which the control unit controls. If
a control unit should cease to function, all information is displayed on all
control units and the system can now be operated from any one of the
remaining control units.
Reference Manual Chapter 3: System description 3-3
Salwico CS3000

Fire alarm
Fire alarm always has the highest priority. A received fire alarm is
immediately shown on the display, all messages, faults and other activities on
the display are suppressed. The fire alarm is indicated both optically and
acoustically. The optical indication on the control unit keeps flashing until the
fire alarms have been acknowledged. The fire alarm shown in the display is
always the first received. The system is capable of handling up to 100 fire
alarms. A fire alarm can be both acknowledged and reset from any control
unit.

Acknowledge fire alarms

The general alarm devices are muted and the flashing optical indication
changes to steady red light.

Reset fire alarms

A fire alarm can only be reset if the alarm condition has disappeared and the
section unit is responding. If the alarm conditions remain or if the section unit
is not responding, a message is displayed. The fire alarm can also be manually
reset by disconnecting the alarming detector or section, in which case the
above restrictions do not apply.

The control unit

The fire alarms are indicated both optically and alpha-numerically on the
control unit. In addition a buzzer is sounding. The fire alarm is displayed with
the full address and type of the alarming unit. Up to 100 fire alarms are stored
in a cyclic list.

The central unit

The fire alarm is indicated on the central unit with red LEDs. On each loop
processor board (SPK-2) the red LEDs of the alarming section and detector are
activated. On the alarm processor board (LPK-2) the red LED shows the status
of the programmable fire alarm output.

If there are to many fire alarms at the same time the indication on the detectors
may not be lit but all the fire alarms are always indicated on the central unit.

For each fire alarm the outputs of the central unit are activated according to the
programmed definitions. The outputs remain activated until all causes for
activation have been reset. Up to 15 fire alarms per section can be stored in the
LPK-2. If a section generates more than 15 fire alarms, all outputs with
conditions depending on that section are activated. One address may have
several fire alarms at the same time since each address and type may generate a
fire alarm.
Basic alarm
If an LPK-2 in a central unit should cease to function, a normal fire alarm
cannot be transmitted to the control units. Instead the system initiates a basic
alarm by activating alarm outputs no 1 - 3 on the ARK-2. The alarm outputs
must be manually reset with a switch on the ARK-2.
A basic alarm is as a central alarm if the section that has generated the alarm is
unknown or as a section alarm if the alarming unit is unknown.
Reference Manual Chapter 3: System description 3-4
Salwico CS3000

Fault indications
Faults are displayed if there are no active fire alarms in the system. When the
faults can not be displayed a manual listing is necessary, all faults can always
be acknowledged, reset and listed. The faults are stored in a cyclic list with
room for 400 fault messages.

Acknowledge fault
When the fault messages have been acknowledged one by one and the internal
buzzer is silenced, the fault output of the central unit is deactivated.

Reset fault
A fault indication can only be reset if the cause of the fault has disappeared,
the fault is acknowledged and the section unit responds. If the cause remains or
if the section unit does not respond, a message is displayed.

The fault indication has the second highest priority and a just received fault
message is immediately shown in the alpha-numerical displayed, if there are
no active fire alarms. Up to 400 faults can be stored in a fault list. The list is
cyclic.

Cause & Effect diagram in case of system board failures

Below is a desription what effects a failure on one of the main system

components in the system will cause.

System with one central

Failure on the alarm processor board (LPK-2)
The system loop communication will go down. The common fault signal will
be activated. The control unit will not be able to show information. Alarming
detectors will still generate basic alarm and activate alarm outputs no 1-3
(bells) on the ARK-2 board and the common fire output on the LPK-2.
Alarming loops are indicated by a red LED on the corresponding SPK-2.

Failure on the loop processor board (SPK-2)

The two detector loops connected to the SPK-2 will cease to function. A fault
indication will be presented on the control unit and the common fault output
will be activated.

Failure on the control unit (ME)

The display and control capabilities on the control unit will cease to function.
All other functions will be retained. The common fault output will be
activated.
If the system contains more than one control unit all information is dispayed
on all control units and the system can now be operated from any one of the
remaining control units.
Reference Manual Chapter 3: System description 3-5
Salwico CS3000

System with two or more centrals

Failure on the alarm processor board (LPK-2)
If the LPK-2 in the master central (central 1) is defect the system loop
communication will now be handled by the LPK-2 in central two.
The common fault signal will be activated. All control units will remain active.
Alarming detectors in the central with the defective LPK-2 will still generate
basic alarm and activate alarm outputs no 1-3 (bells) on the ARK-2 board and
the common fire output on the LPK-2. Alarming loops are indicated by a red
LED on the corresponding SPK-2.

Failure on loop processor board SPK-2 and control units ME will have the
same effects as described under “system with one central” previous in this
chapter.

Abnormal conditions
An abnormal condition is generated if something is not quite normal, but the
function is still retained. Abnormal conditions are automatically reset by the
unit that generated the indication. Up to 100 abnormal conditions can be stored
in an abnormal conditions list.

System definition
In the system definition three groups of parameters can be defined: physical
configuration, adjustment of certain functions and the functions of output and
input.

Physical configuration
By defining the number of control units, central units and sections the system
is able to give fault messages when something deviates from this definition.

Several parameters have to be define for the central units and the control units,
including a definition of which central units the control unit can operate on. A
control unit can also be defined to function as a passive display unit.

Adjusting functions
For the whole system the following adjusting functions can be defined:

• Marine or industrial system. Certain functions are depending on whether

the system is a marine or an industrial system.
• Access codes for the availability of certain functions in the control unit.
• Maximum number of detector addresses and if a dot is used when defining
an address.
• Fire standard.
• Delay time for the reset keys, if the reset keys must be pressed an extra two
seconds.
• If a dirty detector should generate a fault.

A central unit is compiled by a number of different boards, each of this board

has to be defined. In addition the following can also be defined for each
control unit:
Reference Manual Chapter 3: System description 3-6
Salwico CS3000

• If fire alarms and faults can be acknowledge/reset on the unit.

• Type of printer connected.
• The function of the internal buzzer.
• If supplementary text shall be presented on the display when there is a fire
alarm.
• If all messages or only fire alarms and faults should be printed out on the
printer.
• Definition of the inputs.

For each section the following can be defined:

• Number of loop units.

• One-sided or double-sided connection of a detector loop.
• Alarm delay and high sensitivity for smoke detectors.
• Fire alarm prewarning.
• Rate-of-rise function.

The function of outputs and inputs

The type of the device, category, connected to the outputs can be defined and
the outputs can be grouped together in logical groups. The function of the
inputs and outputs are defined by using control conditions that consist of
logical conditions based on fire alarms from detectors, manual call points and
sections as well as the status of the inputs. The activation of an output can also
be delayed. For the serial outputs the transmission parameters must be defined.

The control unit

The control unit is the link between man and machine in the CS3000 system. It
has been designed for ease of use and its front panel is subdivided into two
halves, the fire alarm panel and the operating panel. In each control unit the
whole system status information is stored. The information is identical in each
control unit of the system. Normally, however, only that information is
displayed that is related to the central units which the control unit can operate.

The control unit is polled by the alarm processor board (LPK-2) in the main
central unit. The control unit is also updated with status changes in the system.
When a fire alarm exists in the system only the Fire alarm panel needs to be
used. There are only three keys on this panel ALARMS IN QUEUE, ALARM
MUTE and ALARM RESET. All other functions are controlled from the
operating panel where the most frequently used functions have separate keys.
All other functions are menu controlled.

To perform an operation the first choice is to select the unit to operate on.
Then the actual command is chosen. When selecting the unit the choice is
gradually narrowed, i.e. the choice goes from larger to smaller units.

General about operations

Keying in information

Address
The numerical keys are used to key in a section unit address. There are three
valid intervals for section units but only one can be used at a time. The address
type is defined at the installation of the system.

A) 1 - 150
B) 1 - 99.x, x is equal to 0 or 1 (Note the point before the letter x.)
C) 1-99x, x is equal to 0 or 1

Number
The numerical keys are used to key in a section number, central unit or control
unit. The valid intervals are:

1 - 190 for a section

201 - 600 for conventional digital sections
1 - 16 for central units and control units.
Address interval
For certain types of section units an address interval can be given. An address
interval is given as two addresses separated by a hyphen (-). The hyphen is
available on the function key F1 when needed.

Time
The numerical keys are used to key in the time. A colon (:) is used as a
separator between hours, minutes and seconds. The colon is available on the
function key F1 when needed.

Date
The numerical keys are also used to key in the date. The day is specified by six
digits, two digits each for hour, minutes and seconds.

Erroneous operations
Each key touch is checked and if it is not valid an error message is displayed.
The cause or an explanation is given, when possible ,why that particular key
was not allowed.

Non-executable orders
If an order can not be executed a message about this is displayed together with
an explanation why the execution was interrupted.
Reference Manual Chapter 5: Operation 5-2

Fire alarm

When a fire alarm message is received in the central unit, it is immediately

displayed. The optical indicators and the general alarm devices are activated.
The section number and the detector address are shown on the numeric
indicators on the fire alarm panel. The same information is written in clear text
on the alpha-numerical display, on line one for the first fire alarm. As an
option supplementary texts can be added for each unit, which will be shown on
the second line of the alpha-numeric display.

When a fire alarm is activated from a conventional loop the system will
display a section number in the section field and dash signs ‘---’ in the detector
field. The section numbers are in the interval 200-600.

A central alarm is generated by the system if two dash signs ‘---’, one in each
field, are displayed. The word FIRE CENTRAL and the central unit number
are at the same time shown in the display. The system has activated a fire
alarm at the same time as a hardware fault has occurred in a central unit.

All received alarms are stored in chronological order in the Fire alarm list All.
A total of 100 fire alarms can be stored in this list. All functions in the system
are available at a fire alarm.

Multiple alarms
If more fire alarms are received the LEDs ALARMS IN QUEUE are lit. The
first received fire alarm is shown on both the numerical indicators and on the
first and second line of the alpha-numerical display. The latest fire alarm is
displayed on the third and fourth line of the alpha-numeric display.

The alarms can be listed one by one in the alpha-numeric display. The total
number of fire alarms and the fire alarm in order are shown to the right on line
one. If no key is pressed for about 5 seconds the display returns to show the
first received fire alarm. The list is cyclic, i.e. when the last received fire alarm
has been listed, the next key touch will list the first fire alarm again.
Reference Manual Chapter 5: Operation 5-3
Salwico CS3000

Acknowledge and mute fire alarms

(Access level 2)
All not acknowledged fire alarms are acknowledged and all general alarm
devices are muted at the same time. The internal buzzer is also muted and the
optical fire indications turn over to steady red light. If another fire alarm is
received the general alarm devices are activated anew.

The ALARM MUTE key can be activated immediately or it can be time

delayed, the key must then be pressed for two seconds before the alarm is
acknowledged and muted. This function is defined at the installation of the
system..

List fire alarms

The fire alarms can be listed in two different ways, either by using the
ALARMS IN QUEUE key or by using the LIST key. Only the active fire
alarms, i.e. not acknowledged and not reset fire alarms, are listed when the
ALARMS IN QUEUE key is used. The passive fire alarms, i.e. not resettable
fire alarms, can only be listed with this key when there are no active alarms
present in the system.

By using the LIST key three different lists can be selected from the menu: All
Fire alarms, All not resettable fire alarms and Fire alarm history, i.e. all fire
alarms that have been reset. All lists can be printed out on a local printer.

Reset fire alarm

(Access level 2)
The system can only reset one fire alarm at a time, the fire alarm that is
currently shown on the numerical display on the fire alarm panel and on the
first two lines of the alpha-numerical display on the operating panel. When the
ALARM RESET key is pressed a reset message is displayed on line three on
the alpha-numeric display.

If the reset was successful a message is displayed for about 5 seconds. After
this the next active fire alarm is displayed, if existing. Otherwise the system
returns to normal status, CS3000 CONTROL UNIT is displayed. If the alarm
could not be reset a message is displayed and the fire alarm is moved to the list
of not resettable fire alarms and the indication SECTION/DETECTOR NOT
RESET is lit.

The fire alarm reset can either be executed instantly when the ALARM
RESET key is pressed or the key must be pressed for two seconds before the
execution starts. The function of the ALARM RESET key is defined at the
installation in a special program, the Definition program.

The not-resettable fire alarms can be listed in two different ways, either by
using the ALARMS IN QUEUE key on the fire alarm panel or by using the
LIST key on the operating panel. The ALARMS IN QUEUE key can only list
the not resettable fire alarms if there are no active fire alarms present in the
system and if all faults are acknowledged. The LIST key can always be used
regardless of the system status. The fire alarms are shown on the first line of
the alpha-numeric display, one by one. They are then reset in the normal
manner.

message. Supplementary text is displayed on line two, if provided. The fault is
not displayed if there is an active fire alarm in the system. The fault codes are
listed in Appendix A: Fault codes.

The faults are stored in a list in chronological order, the first received fault is
displayed first. A total of 400 faults can be stored in the list.

Acknowledge and mute faults

(Access level 2)
The faults are acknowledged one by one when the M key is pressed. The
buzzer is permanently muted, the fault indicator turns over to steady light and
the central unit will return to normal status, CS3000 CONTROL UNIT is
displayed, or the next fault is displayed. The buzzer is ressounding when a new
fault is detected by the system.
List faults
The faults are displayed one by one after the LIST function is activated and the
Fault list is selected from the menu. All faults that are not acknowledged are
marked with the text NOT MUTED to the right on line three.

A new fault is put in a waiting list until an old fault is reset if the fault list is
full. The fault list can be printed out on a local printer.
Reference Manual Chapter 5: Operation 5-5
Salwico CS3000

Reset faults
(Access level 2)
A fault can only be reset if the cause has disappeared, the fault is
acknowledged and the unit is responding. The selected fault is shown on the
first and second line on the alphanumeric display. The system tries to reset the
fault when the R key is pressed and a message is shown. If the reset is
successful a message is shown and the next fault is displayed, if existing.
Otherwise the system returns to normal status, CS3000 CONTROL UNIT is
displayed. If the fault could not be reset a NOT RESET message is shown and
the fault remains displayed.

Disconnections
A disconnection can either be performed on a section or on a specific unit or
sequence of units. A disconnection can be permanent or temporarily, the
disconnetion will automatically be reconnected after the specified time interval
has elapsed. All the disconnections are to be found in the Disconnections list.
The DISCONNECTION LED is lit when the first disconnection is defined and
it remains lit until the last disconnection is reconnected.

WARNING! When a unit or a part of a loop is disconnected the fire alarm

system can not supervise this area for any fire alarm. It is therefore very
important that you disconnect as few section units as possible and for a
minimum of time.

Disconnection of sections
(Access level 1)
A whole section can be disconnected either permanently or for a certain time
interval. A permanent disconnection sets all the detectors and manual call
points off on the specified section, it remains disconnected until it is
reconnected from the Disconnections list. A disconnection for a certain time
interval reconnects the detectors automatically when the time interval has
elapsed.
Permanent disconnection
The procedure for a permanent disconnection is: press the S key first to select
a section and then enter a section number, thereafter press the OFF key to
disconnect the section.

Disconnection for a certain time interval

The procedure for a disconnection for a certain time is the same as for a
permanent disconnection except that after the section number is entered, press
the TIMER key and enter a time duration for the disconnection, thereafter
press the OFF key. The maximum disconnection time is 24 hours.

Disconnection of detectors
(Access level 1)
When disconnecting detectors there is a free choice of a single address, a
sequence of addresses or all addresses. The disconnections can either affect all
types of detectors or only a specific type of detectors such as smoke detectors
or heat detectors. The disconnection can either be a permanent disconnection
or a disconnection for a certain time interval. A disconnection for a certain
time interval reconnects the detectors automatically when the time interval has
Reference Manual Chapter 5: Operation 5-6
Salwico CS3000

elapsed. The permanent disconnections are reconnected from the

Disconnections list.

A detector is specified by the section number and thereafter the type of

detector. The following type of detectors can be specified:

• All detectors, press the D key

• Smoke detectors, press the SD key
• Heat detectors, select HEAT. DET in the section menu.

Thereafter specify the number of detectors that shall be disconnected by

entering a single address, an address interval or nothing for all detectors. If the
detectors shall be disconnected for a certain time, press the TIMER key and
enter the disconnection time before pressing the OFF key, otherwise press the
OFF key directly to disconnect the detectors.

A detector can also be disconnected locally. All the locally disconnected

detectors are marked with the text LOCAL OFF in the Disconnections list. A
locally disconnected detector can only be reconnected manually.

Disconnection of manual call points

(Access level 2)
A manual call point or a section unit can be permanently disconnected. Select
the unit you want to disconnect after you have selected a section and thereafter
press the OFF key to disconnect the unit.

Cable break
No section units are answering.
- The cable is broken before the first section unit if no answer is received on a
single fed loop.
- The cable is broken before the first section unit and after the last section unit
the if the loop is a double fed loop.

Section units are answering.

Look for the last section units answering on each side of the loop. The cable
break is situated after or between the answering units.
Earth fault
Check the loops one by one.

1. Remove one loop at a time.

2. Reset the fault.
3. The loop is OK if the fault reappears. If this is the case reconnect the loop
again.
4. Repeat this procedure for all the loops.
5. When all the loops are tested examine each faulty loop in a conventional
way to locate the earth faults.
6. If the earth fault still remains after these steps, examine the cables to all
other devices connected to the fire alarm system.
Short circuit
No section units answers
Search for the short-circuits between the central unit and the first short circuit
isolator.

If one or more section units do not answer

Search for the short circuit between the fault reported short circuit isolators to
find the exact location of the fault.

The easiest way to find a short circuit is to divide the cable in two halves,
