The Origin Of The Village Of Cabean

Cabean village comes from the words "Cabe" and "-an". The word "Cabe"
in the Javanese Dictionary means the name of a plant whose fruit is used for a
mixture of herbs, while "-an" means to indicate a place. So Cabean means a place
to plant a tree called "Cabe" whose fruit is used to mix herbs.
Cabean Village is divided into 3 regions, namely Cabean, Sekaran, and
Jombor. The name "Sekaran" cannot be separated from the existence of the
Demak Sultanate. Sekaran comes from the word "sekar" which means flower. So,
Sekaran is the place used by the Sultanate of Demak to plant flowers. In the past,
Demak was a large kingdom and often held royal celebrations and ceremonies. In
the context of carrying out celebrations and ceremonies, it is clear that the
Sultanate needs flowers for fragrance.
Now it's a very large place. However, during the Helman Willem Daendels
era, he built a postal highway from Anyer to Panarukan. The road divides Sekaran
into two parts, the northern area belongs to Cabean Village and the southern area
to Mranak Village, Wonosalam District.
Jombor from the word "Jember" means a place of water. Because at that
time Jombor was a swamp area with a lot of water. The water is used to water the
flowers in Sekaran. Jombor is a place of water because it is at the junction of two
major rivers, namely Kali Ombo and Kali Lanang.
The existence of Cabean Village cannot be separated from the 3 characters
of the Babad Alas, namely the people who first came to open it as a place to live.
The emergence of Cabean Village cannot be separated from the three people who
became the forerunners. The first to come and form a community. They are
immigrants who have a special task from the sultanate of Demak. They are Soreng
Pati, Kyai Kamal, and Nyai Ringgit.
Soreng Pati is one of the very powerful guardians of the Jipang Panolan
(Kediri Malang border) duchy. The meaning of the name Soreng itself comes
from the words "suro" which means brave, and "-eng" which means in everything.
While the word "pati" means death. So, Soreng Pati is the nickname of people
who dare to face anything, including the courage to die. During the reign of the
3rd Demak Sultanate, namely Sultan Trenggono (1521-1546), Soreng Pati was
assigned by the palace to guard the Northeastern Demak Sultanate entrance area.
As is known, that the Kingdom of Demak, apart from the Tuntang River, also
came through the river that reached Cabean Village. It can be said, Cabean
Village at that time was the gateway to the outermost kingdom of the sea route
from the direction of Jepara and Northeast. In ancient times, transportation used
many rivers. The Kingdom of Demak itself is surrounded by rivers. This means
that if there is an enemy who attacks the kingdom, it can be easily identified
because it is through the river. At that time, the Kingdom of Demak under the
reign of Sultan Trenggono, Demak was very advanced and had a wide area, many
guests from outside the island or abroad. Some of them went to Demak for trading
or for royal government relations. Because Cebean Village is so strategic, Soreng
Pati was given a special task by the Sultanate to guard it, anticipating if there were
enemies who came from Jepara and from the Northeast.
Soreng Pati is a confidant of Arya Penangsang (grandson of Raden Patah).
After the change of royal government from Sultan Trenggono to Sultan
Hadiwijoyo (Jaka Tingkir) a rebellion emerged from Arya Penangsang who felt
he had the right to become king in Demak. Sultan Hadiwijoyo is the son-in-law of
Sultan Trenggono. Sultan Hadiwijoyo felt that he was not a direct descendant of
Raden Patah and gave the descendants of Raden Patah the freedom to live in the
Sultanate of Demak. Thus, the government of the Demak kingdom was moved to
Pajang. With a careful planning Arya Penangsang intends to kill Sultan
Hadiwijoyo. He sent his powerful men, namely Soreng Pati, Soreng Singaparna,
Soreng Satru and Soreng Jaya to kill Sultan Hadiwijoyo with the heirloom of the
Satan Kober kris. However, the four of them failed to kill Sultan Hadiwijoyo, who
was more powerful in his knowledge. After the incident there was no more news
about Soreng Pati's life. When he died he was buried in Sekaran, and his burial
complex was named "Tomb of Simbah Soreng Pati".
Kyai Kamal is located in Cabean Village because he is an envoy from the
Demak Sultanate. He is a head of the Demak Kingdom who is assigned to
religious affairs for the people of Cabean Village and its surroundings such as
Tempuran Village and Betokan Village. Kyai Kamal is assigned to take care of
the dead, marriage, and teach Islam to the local community. In addition, Kyai
Kamal has the ability in terms of treatment. When he died he was buried in
Cabean Village, so the cemetery complex was named "Kyai Kamal's Tomb".
Nyai Ringgit is the wife of a courtier of the Kingdom of Demak who is
assigned to look after the flower gardens belonging to the Kingdom of Demak.
The place where the flower plant was then called "Sekaran". If any delegate from
the Sultanate of Demak needs flowers for a royal ceremony or event, it is his duty
to collect them. Nyai Ringgit waters the flower plants by taking water from the
swamp (Jombor) east of Sekaran. He often goes to swamps where there is water.
In addition to taking the water for watering flowers, also to find fish. So, after
watering and caring for the flowers, he spent more time on the edge of the swamp.
Until his death he was buried in Jombor, and his burial complex was called the
"Tomb of Nyi Ringgit".
Historic places in Cabean Village such as Batu Bobot and Umbul. The
people of Cabean Village used to call Batu Bobot "Watu Kuning" because the
stone is yellowish in color. Batu Bobot is located in the middle of the rice fields of
Cabean Village. This stone has historical value because it is associated with
Sultan Trenggono. During the Demak sultanate, there was the Panarukan Duchy
(the territory of the Blambangan kingdom) which did not want to submit to the
Demak Sultanate. Most of the people of Panarukan at that time were Hindu-
Buddhist. Sultan Trenggono intends to make the Duchy of Panarukan a part of the
Kingdom of Demak so that Islamic da'wah can be applied there. For that, Sultan
Trenggono intends to attack the Duchy of Panarukan, before he goes to attack
Panarukan, Sultan Trenggono first meditates on a rock known as "Batu Bobot" or
people call "Watu Kuning". While meditating, Sultan Trenggono received
instructions from Allah SWT to cancel his intention. However, because of his
hatred for the Portuguese who helped Panarukan it was still done. As a result, he
lost against Adipati Pekik.
Umbul comes from the Javanese language which means gushing water.
Umbul is located in the middle of Sekaran. The water never stops gushing out.
There is no definite information about the origin of who made it. But its existence
is no coincidence. That is, its appearance was deliberately made. In line with that,
Demak when the dry season is long there is no water. It is feared that the flower
plants in Sekaran will all die. So that the existence of Umbul is used for watering
the flowers when it is dry. When the Dutch colonized Indonesia and in Demak,
the Dutch built a warehouse (now SMA Negeri 2 Demak) adjacent to Cabean
Village to store agricultural products. People who attacked the Netherlands often
ran and hid in Cabean Village. So, the Dutch chased and entered Cabean Village.
Seeing a source of water coming out, the Dutch then built the place (umbul), so
that the water could be used for community needs.
