Frida Kahlo was born as Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderon on July 6 th 1907.

When she was

little, she was diagnosed with polio in her right leg which caused it to never fully develop. In 1925,
she was involved in a near fatal bus accident and one year later, she began to paint during her
recovery. One day in 1926, she met Diego Rivera and they became friends because they were both
interested in art making. Two years later, Frida Kahlo joined the Mexican communist party with her
boyfriend Rivera. The following year Kahlo and River got married and her parents said it was like ‘the
union between an elephant and a dove.’ In 1930 Kahlo lived in America with Rivera and created
many different artworks, then moved back to Mexico in 1933. In 1939 Diego Rivera divorced Kahlo
only to remarry her the next year. For many years Frida struggled with her relationship with alcohol
and tried to express her feeling through art. She died on July 13 th 1954.
