Some individuals argue that prevention is better than cure, and a substantial amount of a
country’s health budget allocated to treatment ought to be transferred to health education and
preventative measures. I strongly believe this step is indispensable due to the considerable
expenses of treatment.
Prevention is cheaper than treatment. Prevention expenses mainly include advertising to make
people well-informed about illnesses and conducting medical tests to stop diseases from getting
serious or from spreading in the community in case of viral infections. On the other hand,
treatment requires medicine, pieces of medical machinery, and training of qualified treatment
staff, which exceed the costs of prevention in turn. As a result, governments can fight diseases
more inexpensively by allocating more budget to prevention.
Additionally, some diseases, such as AIDS, diabetes, and hepatitis, are not curable.
Consequently, the only option to tackle them is taking precautions and changing lifestyles,
which can be accomplished by educating individuals. Governments can solely fight them by
transferring a considerable amount of the budget from treatment to health education. Although
some people believe that many diseases are hereditary and unpreventable, governments can
stop them from becoming more severe by educating the patients. For instance, bipolar patients
need to acknowledge the importance of taking medicine regularly, the habit whose negligence
leads to more severity in the illness.
In conclusion, a considerable proportion of the budget should be transferred to health
education and preventative measures because prevention costs less, and many diseases cannot
be cured and solely need prevention.
