Code of Practice on Environmental Health 2021 NEA The Code of Practice on Environmental Health (COPEH) contains information on the essential design
criteria which should be met to satisfy environmental health requirements in the design of refuse storage
and collection systems, public toilets, food retail outlets, supermarkets, food catering outlets, markets,
swimming pools and dormitories.

Code of Practice for Environmental Control 2021 NEA This COP spells out the roles and responsibilities of ECOs (CS) and occupiers and provides a reference

Code of Practice for Environmental Control 2021 NEA This Code of Practice for ECCs spells out their roles and that of the PMs, their responsibilities and what

Code of Practice for Licensed General Waste 1999 NEA This COP provides guidelines on what is good practice in the waste collection business. Licensed

their operations and raise the professionalism of the services rendered.
Code of Practice for the Control of Legionella 2001 NEA This COP provides guidelines for the prevention and control of legionella bacteria in cooling towers in

Code of Practice on Sewerage and Sanitary 2019 PUB This COP is issued under Section 33 of the Sewerage and Drainage Act. This guides the Qualified
Works Persons in the proper planning and design of the sanitary and sewerage system. In stipulating only the
minimum and mandatory design requirements to be complied with, it hopes that the Qualified Persons
will exercise flexibility and creativity in their designs without compromising on functional and maintenance
needs. Some good engineering practices in the planning, design and construction of the sanitary and
sewerage system are also given in this code.

Code of Practice on Surface Water Drainage 2018 PUB This COP contains information on basic planning, design and procedural requirements for surface water
drainage. It specifies the minimum engineering requirements for the provision of functional facilities for
surface water drainage.
SS 587: Management of end-of-life ICT 2013 ESG SS 587 specifies the requirements of a certifiable management system for organisations to
equipment responsibly handle ICT equipment no longer in use. It provides organisations with a recognised
framework to manage end-of-life ICT equipment so as to reduce environmental impact. The
framework is aligned with established international management system standards, and is based on
the Plan-Do-Check-Act continual improvement approach.

SS 593: Code of practice for pollution control 2013 ESG SS 593 Specifies the recommended pollution control requirements and good practices to safeguard
clean air, clean land, clean water and a quality living environment. Includes siting requirements for
various types of developments, management of hazardous substances and toxic industrial wastes, and
land contamination and remediation.

SS 603: Code of practice for hazardous waste 2021 ESG SS 603 sets out the procedures and practices for safe management and handling of hazardous wastes
management (Formerly CP 100) generated from industrial, institutional and other work activities. Also sets out the requirements for
collection, transportation, storage, treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes. Makes reference to bio-
hazardous and radioactive wastes and other specialised types of waste.

SS 636: Code of Practice for Water Services 2018 ESG SS 638 deals with services for the supply of potable water to all residential, commercial and industrial

SS ISO 14001: Environmental management 2015 ESG SS ISO 14001: 2015 Specifies the requirements of an environmental management system for

aim to manage its environmental responsibilities in a manner that contributes to the ‘environmental pillar’
of sustainability. It is applicable to any organisation regardless of size, type and nature and applies to the

SS 280: Specification for metal scaffoldings 2006 ESG SS 280-1 specifies the minimum requirements for metal scaffolding for use as temporary structures on
Part 1: Frame scaffoldings which persons work. These structures provide support for the materials used. It is applicable to
construction, maintenance, repair and demolition work in building, shipbuilding and shiprepairing,
petrochemical and other industries.

SS 280: Specification for metal scaffoldings 2009 ESG SS 281-2 specifies the minimum requirements for steel modular scaffolding for use as temporary
Part 2: Modular scaffoldings structures on which persons work and which provides support for the materials used. It is applicable to
construction, maintenance, repair and demolition work, shipping and repair, petrochemical and other
industries.

SS 311: Specification for steel tubes and 2005 ESG SS 311 specifies the minimum requirements for steel tubes and related fittings for use in tubular
fittings used in tubular scaffolding scaffolding as temporary structures for access or on which persons work. These structures also provide
support for the materials used. It is applicable to construction, maintenance, repair and demolition work
in building, ship building and repair, petrochemical and other industries.

SS 343: Specification for lifting gear Part 1: 2014 ESG SS 343-1 specifies a series of wire rope slings for general purposes. Covers the type of sling, the
Wire rope slings working load limit, and the manufacture of slings and sling assemblies. The multi-legged slings covered
by this standard are constructed with legs of equal nominal length.
SS 343: Specification for lifting gear Part 2: 2014 ESG SS 343-2 specifies requirements for forged steel lifting hooks with latch of grade 8 having eye or clevis
Hooks and pin up to 63 t working load limit (WLL). It does not apply to hand forged hooks.
SS 343: Specification for lifting gear Part 3: 2014 ESG SS 343-3 specifies the general characteristics of forged dee and bow shackles in a range of sizes having

SS 485: Specification for slip resistance 2022 ESG SS 485 provides means of classifying pedestrian surface materials according to their frictional

be used to assist in the specification of a surface material suitable for most pedestrian applications. It
does not cover industrial work area where the public is generally excluded. It also does not cover

SS 497: Code of Practice for design, safe use 2011 ESG SS 497 applies to gantry cranes, overhead travelling cranes, jib cranes and monorail hoists. Specifies

SS 510: Code of Practice for safety in welding, 2017 ESG SS 510 covers the protection of persons from injury and illness and the protection of property (including
cutting and other operations involving the use equipment) from damage by fire and other causes arising from welding and cutting equipment, its

SS 513: Specification for personal protective 2013 ESG SS 513-1 specifies basic and additional (optional) requirements for safety footwear used for general

SS 557: Code of Practice for demolition 2010 ESG SS 557 recommends good practice methods for the safe demolition of buildings and structures, taking
into account issues which affect the environment. Covers development of the demolition plan and
stability report; proper and effective management of the demolition process; maintaining structural
stability, through the provision of temporary structural supports, where necessary; managing deliberate
collapse.

SS 559: Code of Practice for safe use of tower 2022 ESG SS 559-1 establishes required practices for the safe use of cranes, including safe systems of work,
cranes Part 1: General management, planning, selection, erection and dismantling, operation and maintenance of cranes and
the selection of crane operators, riggers and signalmen. It does not cover manually operated (non-
powered) cranes, cranes in which at least one of its motions is manually operated and cranes mounted
on water-borne vessels, except in those circumstances where a land-based crane is temporarily affixed
to a vessel.

SS 559: Code of practice for tower cranes Part 2022 ESG SS 559-2 establishes required practices for the safe use of tower cranes. Areas covered include safe

SS 559: Code of practice for tower cranes Part 2022 ESG SS 559-3 specifies requirements for the checking and inspection to be carried out on tower cranes. It

delivery check at the workshop, pre and post erection check on-site, periodic inspection, pre-operational

SS 658: Code of practice for design, operation, 2020 ESG SS 658 specifies the requirements for the design and construction of local exhaust ventilation (LEV)
testing and maintenance of local exhaust systems for the removal of air borne contaminants generated or released from any process, operation or
ventilation systems work carried on in the workplace. Establishes recommended practices for operation, testing and
maintenance of LEV systems to assure continuous and satisfactory performance of the systems. Also
covers competency requirements for designing, testing and maintaining the systems. It does not cover
applications of LEV for removal of bio-aerosols and radioactive materials. Not applicable to mechanical
ventilation for pharmaceutical containment, confined spaces, clean rooms and air-conditioning in
buildings. However, the principles of LEV often apply in such areas. For kitchen LEV refer to SS 553:
2016 Code of practice for air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation in buildings.

SS 659: Code of practice for scaffolds 2020 ESG SS 659 sets out the general provisions relating to the erection and use of scaffolds in workplaces across
(formerly CP 14: Code of Practice for various industries, such as, but not limited to, construction, marine, process industries, landscaping,
scaffolds) manufacturing, commercial facilities management, repair and demolition. It does not include:
a) Platform suspended by ropes, whether fixed or movable i.e. boatswain chair;
b) Power-operated platforms such as suspended scaffolds;

marking requirements and test methods for portable ladders. It does not apply to step stools or ladders for
specific professional use such as firebrigade ladders, roof ladders and mobile ladders. It also does not
apply to ladders used for work on or near live electrical systems or installations

SS EN 131 Part 3: Marking and user 2019 ESG SS EN 131 series replaces SS 176: 1996. SS EN 131-3 advises on the safe use of ladders covered by
instructions the scope of SS EN 131-1 and fulfilling the requirements of SS EN 131-1, SS EN 131-2 and, for single or
multiple hinged-joint ladders, SS EN 131-4, for telescopic ladders SS EN 131-6 and for mobile platform
ladders SS EN 131-7.

SS EN 131 Part 4: Single or multiple hinge- 2019 ESG SS EN 131 series replaces SS 176: 1996. SS EN 131-4 specifies the requirements, tests and marking of
joint ladders hinged combination ladders with one or several hinge joints. It does not apply to hinge-joints of

SS EN 420: Protective gloves – General 2003 ESG SS EN 420 the general requirements and relevant test procedures for glove design and construction,
requirements and test methods (2016) resistance of glove materials to water penetration, innocuousness, comfort and efficiency, marking and
information supplied by the manufacturer. It does not apply to gloves used by the medical profession,
used for protection against electrical hazards or for handling of products where cleanliness is of
importance (e.g. food, PCB).

SS EN 13374: Temporary edge protection 2018 ESG SS EN 13374 specifies the requirements and test methods for temporary edge protection systems for

SS EN 3-7~10: Portable fire extinguishers 2012 ESG This standard specifies the minimum requirements for attesting the conformity of portable fire
(2020) extinguishers to SS EN 3-7, as well as the requirements for the quality and production control of the fire

factory assessment and controls during production.

It is applicable to open plant processing facilities in the oil, chemical and process industries, including
energy and utilities facilities.
It is does not apply to atmospheric storage tanks, which is usually sited away from process units,
pressurised storage tanks and cryogenic storage tanks

SS 641: Code of practice for fire safety for 2019 ESG SS 641 sets out requirements and recommendations for the fire safety of laboratories using chemicals. It
laboratories using chemicals covers the safe use, handling, storage and disposal of flammable liquids, compressed and liquefied
gases. It also covers fire safety requirement in terms of laboratory unit design and construction, fire
protection, explosion hazard protection, ventilating system requirements as well as the storage, handling
and disposal of flammable chemicals. Includes toxic and hazardous chemicals due to their potential
impact on fires.
It is applicable to laboratories located within manufacturing facilities (e.g. petrochemical, pharmaceutical,
gas manufacturing), Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL), research entities, commercial entities and
healthcare sector, laboratory equipment suppliers, fire safety managers, health and safety professionals,
facility managers and consultants (e.g. QP, M&E engineers, fire safety engineers).

SS 645: Code of practice for installation and 2019 ESG SS 645 applies to the installation and servicing of electrical fire alarm systems in buildings. It covers
servicing of electrical fire alarm systems alarm systems using manual call points, heat detectors, smoke detectors and flame detectors. The
revision is intended to update existing requirements to bring the code in line with the latest fire alarm
concepts and technologies.

CP 52: Code of Practice for Automatic Fire 2004 ESG CP 52 sets requirements for the installation of automatic sprinkler system in buildings and also provides
Sprinkler System (with Amendment No 1 & 2) for occupancy classification.
