1. Derive mean of Binomial distribution.


2. The marks obtained in Statistics in a certain examination are found to be normally
distributed. If 15% of the candidates get≥60 marks,40 % get <30 marks, find the mean
and the Standard deviation of marks.
3. Two dice are thrown 4 times. Getting a sum of 7 on the faces is a success. Find the
probability that sum gets i) Twice, ii) Never.
4. Given that the mean heights of students in a class is 158 cms with a standard deviation of
20 cms. Find how many students heights lie between 150 cms and 170 cms.
5. Derive a formula for the recurrence formula of Poisson distribution.
6. In a family of 5 children, find the probability that there are i) 2 boys, ii) No boys.

8. In a test on electrical bulbs, it was found that the life of a particular make, was normally
distributed with an average life of 2040 hours and S.D of 4o hrs. Estimate the number of
bulbs likely to burn for more than 2140.
9. If the variance of a Poisson variant is 3.Find the probability that i) P(x=0)
ii) 𝑃(1 ≤ 𝑥 < 4).
10. The probabilities of a Poisson variant at x= 1 and at x=2 are equal. Find i) 𝜇, ii)
𝑃( 1 < 𝑥 < 4).
11. A die is thrown 8 times. If getting a 2 or 4 is a success. Find 𝑃(𝑥 ≤ 3)

12. The mean of a binomial distribution is 3 and the variance is 9/4. Fin i) The value of n,

15. If the masses of 300 students are normally distributed with mean 68 kgs and standard

intended a maximum tolerance in the diameter 0.495 to 0.505, otherwise the washers are
considered to be defective. Determine the percentage of defective washers produced by
the machine.
