Choose a clinical scenario from your recent experience and analyze it using the Foundation of
Knowledge Model.

• How did you acquire knowledge?

The clinical scenario that I have chosen is when I get to experience administering an IV
push. I initially feel a lot of anxiety because I have no idea what to do; this anxiety increases
as I prepare the drug, of course under the nurse's supervision. I initially felt like I was bothering
the nurse because I had so many questions, but he assured me that this was actually a good
thing because we were being so cautious with the medication dose. He also said that it was
nice because it showed that I was genuinely interested in learning, which is why he had helped
me with the preparation. After that, I was given permission to administer the medication in the
patient's room. After interacting with the patient, he then taught me, together with the patient,
the action of that medication, the side effects, and what to watch out for. He taught me tips and
advice on how to do an IV push, like kinking the tube, and provide the medication slowly. And
then he let me administer it, applying all the knowledge that he had given. And that is how I
learned how to administer an IV push.

• How did you process knowledge?

I processed the knowledge by paying attention, analyzing, and visualizing what the nurse
was explaining. Although I'm still processing the knowledge that he gave earlier, I am certain
that I could fully understand it if I did it myself. After the administration, I finally processed
the knowledge completely and understood what the nurse had previously conveyed.

• How you generate knowledge?

I generated my knowledge by giving an IV push while applying the directions and advice
the nurse on duty had given me. I tried to lighten the mood by conversing with the patient while
maintaining my composure, and I carried out the procedure properly.

• How did you disseminate knowledge?

My group members asked about the procedure I performed and if it was challenging or
enjoyable, so I shared the information with them. Additionally, they requested that I explain
the step-by-step process because they could use it in the future and are certain that they will
use it on their future patients. I therefore made sure to describe it in a way that they could
understand. They were so eager to try it that I gave them the tips and advice the nurse had
given me, hoping that they would not experience the same level of nervousness as I did.

• How did you use feedback and what was the effect of feedback on the foundation of your
knowledge?
Given that we are still learning and that we are still student nurses, I believe that feedback
is the most important part. If we receive positive feedback about our performance, it will boost
our confidence; if we do not, we will strive to improve and learn more, especially from more
experienced people. The feedback I received from my peers was positive since I was happy to
share knowledge with them, and it certainly gave me more confidence as a student nurse, which
makes me want to further develop my skills. I'm always prepared to acquire, process, generate,
and disseminate whatever knowledge is necessary as a student nurse. And I am willing to take
any feedback because I am certain that it will help me grow and help me succeed in my career
as a nurse.
