music agency
Agency “Urban Lys” works for promotion
and booking of the improvising jazz / world /
experimental musicians of Ukraine.
We are the only jazz promoting agency in Ukraine.
Urban Lys was found in 2017 in city of Sumy
to promote jazz from different countries
in Ukraine, and to develop and popularize
our own jazz scene. Currently based in Berlin.

Mark Tokar is an iconic figure of the Ukrainian improvisational
scene. His first album Yatoku (with Yuriy Yaremchuk and Klaus
Kugel) was released by Not Two lable in 2006. After that, the
career of a contrabass player rocketed.
Mark is a frequent guest on international projects (Ken Van-
dermark Resonance Project, Undivided, Five Spot, Four, Varpaj,
Yatoku and others) and is the leader of international ensem-
bles of Leo’m’art, Mark Tokar Quintet and Avtokar. Co-founder
and participant of numerous literature and musical projects.
He has played with the following musicians: Ken Vandermark,
Bobby Few, Joe McPhee, Charles Gayle, Perry Robinson, Steve
Swell, Michael Zerang, Tim Daisy, Dave Rempis, Roberta Piket,
Fred Frith, Klaus Kugel, Petras Vishniauskas, Mirchea Tiberian,
Mazzol, Mikołaj Trzaska, Wacław Zimpel, Yuriy Yaremchuk, Mag-
nus Broo, Per-Åke Holmlander, Mark Sanders and others.
He has participated in festivals and music projects in the USA,
Europe and Asia. Gaude Polonia Fellow in 2006.

MARK TOKAR
USEIN BEKIROV
Usein Bekirov is a pianist, keyboardist, violinist, composer,
arranger, and bandleader. He experiments mainly with jazz fu-
sion, funk, and ethno-jazz styles. His original compositions are
strongly influenced by Crimean Tatar, Ukrainian, Azerbaijani
and Balkan folk music. In the early 90s, Bekirov’s family re-
turned from Fergana, Uzbekistan to their homeland in Crimea,
Ukraine. After the Crimea annexion he moved to Kyiv.
In 1997 Bekirov started performing with many established jazz
musicians and participated in several international jazz fes-
tivals. In 2016 Bekirov released his debut album, "Taterrium".
In 2019 Bekirov recorded his second album, "Inspiration", in
which compiles a concert for piano with orchestra,. Usein
Bekirov is one of few artists endorsing KORG synthesisers
in Ukraine. His composition "Maalouf Song" in the Ibrahim
Maalouf's album was nominated for a Grammy as the best
improvised jazz solo.

Yuriy Seredin is a ukrainian pianist and composer.
He is a sensetive and imaginative musician with his
eyes on the future. His ability to develop musical
narrative through his multy-layered compositions is
impressive and his connection to music is genuine.
His debut album Asylum Search (2018) received
an award as Album of the Year (Radio.Aristocrats,
Ukraine). Now Yuriy also performs his new compo-
sitions, influensed by recent events of war in his
motherland.
