Concept Statement

Project Name: Valley of Hope

Project Location: Balayan, Batangas

This project is an opportunity of providing a public library and combining it with urban
design. Containing books filled with knowledge and a space to connect with nature, the
library “Valley of Hope” aims to be the first urban library park located in the province of
Balayan Batangas. The project is placed near the seaside of Balayan where people can
also connect not only with nature but also in marine life.

The use of concrete and biophilia is to create a connection between two different
elements and forming balance between man-made and nature. This concept proves
that both factors can co-exist in one space and flourish without compromising both
elements. Among the sustainable development goals “Valley of Hope” aims to provide:
quality education (4), affordable and clean energy (7), sustanable cities and
communities (11), and climate action (13). The project is divided into two aspects a
library and a park where they can relax their minds and connect themselves with nature.
Aside from that this project aims to change the perspectives of people on library by
utilizing different design aspects such as large openings, high ceilings, open space,
biophilia and more. Through design it is given an opportunity to introduce a new horizon
on the eyes of many.

The “Valley of Hope” was inspired from the arches of the facade which are curved
upward which represents vallies or mountain, and calling it hope due to the fact that
libraries are one of the places where we can gain knowledge and inspiration good
enough to give us hope and dreams in life. Forming a conncetion between reality and
imagination through books and the use of nature.
