Holiday Homework on Art Integration

You have a choice between tasks 1, 2 and 3. You have to work individually. You can do any one task
and submit by 20 June.

Task 1 Find out about the history of Postage stamps. Also find out the different parts of a stamp and what
information a postage stamp conveys.
Based on your findings, design a postage stamp for a time in the past or future in India, UK or the USA.
Submit it with a detailed description of its parts and the ideas behind the particular design choice.

Submission: The homework should be submitted as a folder(NOT PLASTIC) with two A4 sheets- One
with a large picture of the stamp you have designed (drawn or printed) and the other with detailed
description of parts and the logic behind the choice of design. Please do ensure that colour print out of
the digital copy submitted is not marred by any distracting watermark.

The folder should have front and a back covers-The front cover of the folder should display your name,
class and section, subject- English Core , Unit- The Third Level, and Activity - Designing my Own Stamp
and the back cover should include references and credits.

Task 2. You could make a drawing of the Third Level at the Grand Central Station visited by Charley
displaying any three prominent things that he noticed which made him decide he was in the year 1894.

Submission: The homework should be submitted on an A4 sheet which will be put inside a folder (NOT
PLASTIC) with two A4 sheets. One with your drawing and the other explaining why you chose the
particular three elements that you depicted in the sketch. You could make the drawing manually or
digitally, but ensure that the colour print out of the digital copy submitted is not marred by any
distracting watermark.

The folder should have front and a back covers.The cover of the folder should display your name, class
and section, subject- English Core , Unit-The Third Level, and Activity - Visualising The Third Level and
back cover should include references and credits.
You may also do a comparison between the third level in 1894 Grand Central and a railway station in
India in the 1890s through drawing.

Task 3- Write an imaginary poem at a point much later in time than the setting of Kamala Das’s My
Mother at Sixty-six telling what happens next.
Or write a poem expressing a dilemma you have faced in real life.
Minimum 12 lines. Try to use some of the poetic devices you have learnt so far. You may or may not
have a rhyme scheme.
