What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?

The goal is for students to know the importance of these people and why we learn about
them.

To start the lesson, I will ask students who is an important figure in their lives and why.
They will tell me, and I will introduce Martin Luther King and why he was important.

After that I will show the students my Sway that I made on Martin Luther King. After
showing my sway students will use the same tool to talk about another historical
figure. Students will choose from a list of historical figures such as James Oglethorpe,
Sequoyah, Jackie Robinson, Juliette Gordon Low, or Jimmy Carter. They will then begin
research on the person they picked and make a sway using the information they
found. After that students will present the person the chose to the class.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
This activity is so students can know more about our history. This also a good way for
students to collaborate with people who also have the same person as them. It’s also a fun
way for them to tell a story using different feature on the Sway application. If students are
not comfortable with sharing in front of the class, they can also make a video where they
speak in it. If they make a video, they can play it for the class without having to stand at the
board and presenting.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This activity uses the principles of representation and engagement. They are required to
understand what they have found and apply it in a fun way. They must analyze different facts
and chose one that is most important to know. With sway they can express what was
interesting to them in a way that is not boring.
Reflecting on enhanced learning:
I think students will be excited to share what information they found on their person with
their peers. It will also be fun to look at the different presentation’s students decide to create
according to the person who made it. It will be interesting to see what students come up
with.
