4. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

While the MMDU blade was removed, write operations in the database of pair MMDU failed
due to an internal issue of the 3rd party database software. This caused 3G/2G procedures to
fail. SubsHandler (934) and DBHandler (93D) processes may restart, depending on the traffic
served.

5. IMPACT ON THE NETWORK

KPI drop while the blade is unreachable. Alarm 1007 is also raised for LNX93D and/or LNX934
Processes.

6. DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Due to the internal issue of the 3rd party database software, the primary database node on
pair MMDU was not able to detect that its secondary node was unreachable as it was located
on the MMDU whose blade was removed. This caused all write operations on pair MMDU to
fail because of a database transaction deadlock. Additionally, subsHandler (934) and
DBHandler (93D) processes may restart, depending on the traffic served. Alarm 1007 may be
observed if the processes restart. Alarm 3292 will also be noticed, indicating communication
loss between the units.
Note here that in some cases MMDU replacement is necessary (hardware failure for example).
When MMDU is set to SE-NH the database is shut down gracefully before the unit restart (and
connection cutoff) and this issue will not occur.
