1.A car with a mass of 1237 kg takes 12 min to travels 30 km considering the velocity remains
constant throughout the whole trip what is it in m/s? (2 points)

2. Finally the car reaches the end of its journey and it comes to a complete stop.

a) Draw a Free Body diagram to show the forces acting on the car. (2 points)

b) What are the forces being exerted on the car at this point? (4 points)

c) What are the names of these forces? (2 points)

3. What was the momentum of the car when it was traveling? (3 points)

4. The car starts moving again with an acceleration of x m/s2 on an inclined plane that is 28°
with respect to the main road, the friction coefficient (µ) is 0.2 and you know the force of
friction can be calculated by multiplying the Normal Force times the friction coefficient.

a) Draw a new Body diagram for this situation (3 points)

b) Calculate the acceleration with which the car is moving uphill (5 points)

c) What is the force with which the car moves uphill? (4 points)

5. When the car reaches the top of the hill it has moved a distance of 20 m on the inclined
plane.

a) what is the height that it reached? (3 points)

b) What was the work made by the car to reach the top of the hill? (4 points)

It is known that the Work can also be calculated by adding all the energies involved (Kinetic
and Potential, c) what are the Potential and Kinetic energies used? (4 points)

Bonus) Calculate the velocity of the car just before it reached the top (You can calculate the
Kinetic Energy to make sure your result is correct) (10 points)

6. What is the work that is not being considered on the previous question? (4 points)
Name:
Group:

Hint: It has to do with the force that opposes movement

7. Considering this force, the magnitude of the Kinetic energy would be a little bit different
from the one calculated, therefore the equation that describes Work would look like W= PE+
KE+ Energy lost. What would be the new value for Kinetic Energy and what is the energy lost?
(6 points)

8. Assuming the car is doing the same amount of work during all the time it takes it to get to
the top of the hill and it takes it 0.11666 minutes to get to the top, what was the power done
by the car? (Make the correct conversions to get your answer in Watts) (5 points)

9. After some time the car starts heading back, it takes the same slope to return and in order
to save fuel, the driver put the car in neutral and let the car slide downhill

a) Draw the new free object diagram (3 points)

b) Calculate the acceleration of the car (6 points)

10. When the car is finally getting to its destination a force is applied to the breaks, which are
hydraulic, this means that by applying the same amount of pressure to different areas
different forces will be exerted. If the area of the brake pedal is 0.01 m2 and a force of 27 N is
applied, what would be the force exerted to stop the car if the output area is 0.2m2. (6 points)

11. After the car has come to a complete stop the driver realizes one of the tires is a little bit
low, but fortunately the driver has a water manometer that he used for his physics class, so he
uses it to get the pressure of the tire and finds out the pressure is 16201 mmH2O.

a) What would be the pressure in mmHg, in psi and in Pa? (6 points)

b) If we know the density of air is 1.225 kg/m³, what would be the height the water actually
reached in the manometer (6 points)

c) What is the absolute pressure if the atmospheric pressure is 101325 Pa (3 points)

12. The fuel tank of the car is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), its specific heat is 1.9
kJ/kg. °C and the surface of the tank that get in contact with the fuel is 200g, when 15 L of fuel
(gasoline) at 50°C are added to the tank they both reach and equilibrium temperature of 42°C.
(The density of gasoline is 770 kg/m3)

Assume an isothermal system (where heat is not lost to the surroundings)

a) What is the mass of gasoline added? (6 points)

b) What is the initial temperature of the tank? (10 points)
