The Georgetown
Difference
Are you ready for a Georgetown EMBA? The Georgetown
McDonough brand was rated #4 in the world by recruiters in a
2019 Bloomberg Businessweek survey of employers, reflecting
our reputation for academic excellence. In our EMBA, this is
embodied by global projects, distinctive courses, and activities
that leverage the rich fabric of Washington, D.C.

D.C. Advantage
Since Georgetown University was founded in 1789, our location in the global capital
city of Washington, D.C. — the intersection of business, government, and international
relations — has provided access to leading business executives and global thought
leaders. We offer experiences few schools can match.

Jesuit Tradition
Georgetown was established on the Jesuit principles of equality, respect, and cura
personalis, or care for the whole person, and those same values define the school
and the EMBA program today. Our rigorous academic culture encourages students
to collaborate, forge close friendships, and extend learning outside of the classroom.

Global Ready
We will prepare you to become a global-ready leader through two international
residencies with business consulting projects, coursework, and case studies. In
addition, you will interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff
with various work experiences and perspectives across industries and functions,
creating a rich learning journey.

Renowned Expertise
Solutions to the world’s most complex issues lie at the intersection of business and
policy, foreign affairs, law, and other areas of expertise that EMBA’s diverse programming
offers. Our world-class faculty include professionals with broad experience as well as
entrepreneurs who mentor students looking to start new ventures.
“ The program is a reflection of the best Georgetown offers.
Our students learn how to think as business leaders,
gaining knowledge of broader management issues at
the nexus of global business, government, and policy in
Washington and around the world. Our faculty are both
interdisciplinary and diverse and the program weaves
elements of our value system, and Jesuit heritage
throughout the curriculum.

A Rigorous and
Rewarding Curriculum
Our dynamic EMBA curriculum continually evolves to reflect
the changing nature of global business. It is characterized by
an interdisciplinary focus that brings to life the intersection
of business and policy found in Washington, D.C., as well as
Georgetown’s expertise in global business and its Jesuit values.
In fact, the Financial Times’ 2020 Executive MBA rankings listed
the program #1 for incorporating corporate social responsibility
topics into the curriculum and #9 for the percentage of global
experiences in the curriculum among U.S. schools.

In the first year, the core curriculum presents a common understanding

of fundamental business theory and practice. Classes like accounting,
management, and marketing challenge students to master the cross functions
of traditional business practice before diving into advanced courses in year
two. Students also complete the Structure of Global Industries residency to
take an in-depth exploration of the intersection of business and policy.

During the advanced business courses in year two, students learn how
to think as business leaders through core courses on the foundations
of business and public policy, global political economy, and strategic
advocacy for business. You also are able to customize your EMBA through
the choice of seven elective courses and an innovative Global Capstone
Residency. Electives vary based on the composition of the cohort, faculty
recommendations, and key business issues.

Local Residencies
Through four residencies — two domestic and two international
— you will be immersed in real-life business projects, apply
knowledge learned in the classroom to a specific organization
or industry, and better understand the skills needed to advance
your firm or to start your own business.

Opening Residency: Georgetown Means Business

This introduction to the program provides an in-depth “live case” experience focused on
a specific industry. Apply a high-level view of finance, marketing, strategy, accounting,
and other fundamental business areas to global companies and multinationals facing
real challenges in today’s competitive international marketplace.

Structure of Global Industries Residency

This on-campus residency offers an integrated framework to study and practice
concepts in international trade and investment, trade policy, economic growth, and
monetary and fiscal policy. Teaching and learning in this on-campus residency takes
place partly through lectures and principally through practicums supported by team
meetings. The practicums require original, creative work by the teams of students
who create a business, determine the locations of production and markets, and
recommend adjustments to shocks in the business environment.
“ Looking back on our time during opening residency,
the work was challenging and the time commitment was
grueling, but the relationships formed with fellow members
of our cohort made every second rewarding. In a very
short period of time we went from a group of strangers in
a classroom, to friends working toward a common goal.

Global Business Experience
In this signature Georgetown McDonough experience, student consulting teams work
together to solve pressing business problems facing foreign organizations and Fortune
500 companies with operations overseas. At the end of the course, the cohort travels
abroad to the client’s facilities to present recommendations to senior leadership.

Global Capstone Residency:

Issues for Industries Worldwide
Incorporating all components of the program, student teams study the impact of
globalization at the country, industry, and firm levels. With the guidance of a faculty
advisor, teams will travel to different parts of the world to conduct field research on
a particular country, region, industry, and corporation and produce a research paper
that highlights opportunities and challenges on particular topics of interest. To complete
the residency, teams highlight their research in a final presentation to the Georgetown
McDonough community.

embraces the changing times while staying true to core values –
