SC 430: General Engineering Procedures and Ethics — 2022/2023

TERMS OF REFERENCE
1.0 Introduction:
In this assignment, the students will work in the groups hereby referred to as "Consulting Firms". The
assumption is the groups submitted expression of interest were shortlisted and qualified to undertake
this assignment hereby referred to as “Proposal”. Those who didn’t submit EoI are considered to
be disqualified and shall not be allowed to respond to these ToR.
2.0 Terms of Reference:
This assignment should be done in your shortlisted groups called “Consulting Firms” stated above, from at
least three-degree programmes, from at least two departments. Each group is required to respond full to the
ToR by submitting a Proposal. Your company should select ONE of the following ToR and prepare the
submission;
2.1 Prepare a technical methodology for Industrial production of a product of your choice. The
methodology is expected to cover all the steps from the processing of raw materials to final finished
product. Indicate the all the technical challenges and risks in any of the production steps. Presentation of
the methodology should be accompanied by the flow chart diagrams;
2.2 Prepare a technical methodology for Design and installation of the engineering system of your
choice. The methodology should indicate all the steps from the design to the installation. Indicate all the
challenges and risks. Presentation of the methodology should be accompanied by the flow chart diagrams.
3.0 Deliverables:
The Consultant shall select one of the ToRs above and respond to it. As part of the deliverables, the
consultant shall prepare at most 2 pages document for the technical methodology and additional page for
flow chart diagrams or photos for more details of the methodology. The submission must be accompanied
by a cover page, letter of submission of the proposal, list of personnel (members of group) and the technical
methodology.
4.0 Evaluation Criteria of the Proposals
The Expression of Interest shall be evaluated on the basis of the following:
• Timely submission: 10 points;
• Cover Page: 5 points;
• Letter of Submission of proposal 5 points;
• Team Composition 5 points;
• Technical Methodology 35 points
• Flow chart 30 points;
• Quality of Work 10 points
5.0 Place and mode of delivery:
Companies are required to submit their Proposals not later than 1500 hrs on Friday 12th May, 2023 in
Room Al21. Submissions not made within this deadline will attract a penalty of at least 10% of the
maximum scores per day starting from the deadline. Submission should be in A4 sealed envelope clearly
marked "Proposals - SC 430 for the attention of Mr. E. E Moshi" The envelope should also indicate
the date and time of submission.
6.0 Ethical conduct:
It is expected that throughout the duration of the assignment strict professional ethical conduct will be
observed.
