BLACK SCREEN
THE QUIET HUM OF GIGGLING AND DISTANT CLAPPING. GRADUALLY, WE
MAKE OUT SOMETHING UNNERVING, RIGHT BESIDE US: THE SOUND OF A
BABY CRYING MASSIVE RED TITLE FADES UP:
“T O D D”
HOLD; then SMASH OUT OF THE BLACKNESS TO REVEAL --

INT. A STUFFY APARTMENT - NIGHT

The viewer floats through an overbearing apartment and up its

sweeping staircase to where a stern man in conservative dress
is pacing back and forth, smoking a cigarette. He is the
FATHER (Wilis Todd, White, Black Hair, Beard)
JASON (V.O.)
What they say is a fucking lie.
Having kids can’t save a marriage.
 
The throes-of-labor pants and moans of the MOTHER (Catherine
Todd, White, Blonde Hair) can be heard from down the hall.
Now, eerie Gaas and Goos chill the air. Wilis stops and gapes
the cigarette out of his mouth. Wilis holds the new born baby
(Jason Todd)
JASON (V.O.) (CONT'D)
Especially for the two drugged up
and broke parents constantly on the
move, who just happened to be mine.
WILIS
Yo Cath, pull this blanket tight
over you, and rest up. There’s some
crackers and juice for you on the
dresser. I’m gonna go see a guy
about the baby.

EXT. ELEVATED TRAIN PLATFORM - POURING RAIN - NIGHT

We find Jason in the hands of a random man in a suit there
are tel guys behind him. We see Willis pleading to the man in
the suit.
WILIS
See Jack! Tell Maroni I got
something real good to trade him.
That kid’ll bring us even!
MAN IN SUIT (JACK)
Are you a dumbass?

Jack tosses The Baby to one of the guys behind him. Jack then
grabs Willis and holds him up by his collar.
MAN IN SUIT (JACK) (CONT'D)
You have got to be the dumbest dude
in Gotham. And that’s saying
something!
WILIS
I--
THE MAN IN SUIT (JACK) PUNCHES WILLIS IN THE FACE. WILLIS
FALLS AND THE MAN IN SUIT (JACK) KICKS HIM WHILE HE’S DOWN.
MAN IN SUIT (JACK)
I came all the way to this rusty
ass train station to see your
meth’d out ass because you said you
(mocking him)
”had a way to pay Mr. Maroni back.”
(normally)
And now you’re trying to give him
some goofy ass kid like that’s
gonna help!
WILIS
No, that’s not what--
MAN IN SUIT (JACK)
(while punching him)
Settle your damn debts like a man.

WILIS
I’m sorry!
The Man In The Suit (Jack) grabs the kid from the man and
throws Jason to Wilis.
MAN IN SUIT (JACK)
And you got hell of nerve bringing
life into this world when you can’t
even take care of your own scrawny
ass!
The Man In The Suit and his Men walk off.
MAN IN SUIT (JACK) (CONT'D)
You got one more week to pay your
damn debt and if you don’t after
that. There is no after that.
