1 Preconditions
• Headset with microphone or computer with built-in microphone and speakers
• External or internal webcam
• Stable internet connection with sufficient bandwidth (minimum 1.2 Mbps / recommended 2
Mbps)
• It is recommended to install the Microsoft Teams application to join the conference
o No login required with Microsoft Teams
o Link to download: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ww/microsoft-365/microsoft-
teams/download-app
• It is also possible to join the MS Teams conference directly in a browser. In this case, a
current browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox is recommended for an optimal
user experience.

2 Microsoft Teams
2.1 Join a conference
Open the invitation Email and click the link:

A browser window should open which provides three options:

Select "Open your Teams app". If you want to join directly with the browser, you can also select
"Continue on this browser". If the window does not open, right-click the link in the invitation
Email, copy it, and manually paste it into the browser.

 Before joining the conference, you can specify the name you want to display in the conference,
turn the camera and microphone on or off, and adjust the settings of your audio devices. Once
you have made all the settings, you can select "Join now".

2.2 Interact during the conference

After joining the conference, you'll see a gallery view of all conference participants

In addition, there is a toolbar that lets you turn on your camera , mute or unmute your
microphone or share your screen . The icon provides further options, e.g., full
screen or deactivating the incoming video in case of connection issues. In addition, there are
buttons to raise or lower the hand , to use the conference chat or to show the meeting
participants .

When the trainer shares the screen, the gallery view of the participants is minimized to a dock
under the split screen. You can switch back and forth between the split screen and the gallery
view by clicking on the respective content.

3 VNC
3.1 Join the VNC Cloud team
To remotely control the lab devices during the exercises, the course uses the VNC software.
The trainer will invite you to join the VNC team by means of your Email address. The Email you
will receive looks like this:

Select the "Join Team" button in the email. To join the team, you must create a VNC account.
Don't worry, you can simply delete the account after training, instructions for this can be
found at the end of this document. If you already have an account that is linked to your email
address, you can of course use it.

Please note your password when you create the account, as it will be used later! The login page
looks like this:

After registering, you will see this window in the browser:

 Select "Get VNC Viewer" to go to the download page for the VNC Viewer or enter
the following link into your browser:

https://www.realvnc.com/en/connect/download/viewer/

On the download page, select the dropdown menu under "Download VNC Viewer" and select
“Standalone EXE x64” or “Standalone EXE x86”. This version of the VNC Viewer does not
require installation as it is the portable version of the software.
After your selection click “Download VNC Viewer”.

When the download is complete, you can simply run the ".exe" file and the VNC Viewer will
open

3.2 Connect to the remote computer via VNC Viewer

To connect to the lab computer, you must log in to the newly created or existing VNC account
with your mail address and password

Once this has been done, a verification email will be sent to you to confirm your login. Follow
the instructions in the email and confirm your login, after which you have successfully logged in
to your VNC Viewer account.

 In the following window you should see a computer icon with the description "Lab_PGX" or
similar while "x" is the number of the practice room.

For the first test of your setup, you're ready when you can see this screen. During training you
can connect to the practice computers by following these steps:

Double-click the icon and the VNC connection is established. The connection requires a
password, this password is provided by the trainer. You can select "Remember password" to
speed up the login process next time

After the successful login, you can operate the remote computer. When you move the mouse to
the top of the screen a toolbar appears that includes several additional options, such as a full-
screen mode.

3.3 Delete the VNC account

After the training, you can delete your VNC account. Go to the website
https://manage.realvnc.com/en/ and sign in with your account. Navigate to the Profile page and
click Close account.
