MEDICAL ENGLISH ASSIGNMENT 2

NAME : SELLYA OKTAVIANNA

NIM : 20200306087

1. Explain the function of noun and give examples of proper noun.

Answer :
A noun can be defined as a word used to name a person, place, or thing. By a
thing here, it means that it comprises something which can be perceived by human
senses, or that which cannot be perceived but can be thought of.
Proper Nouns are words that name a specific person, place, or thing. A proper
noun begins with an upper case letter because it is the name of a particular person,
place, or thing.
Examples : George Washington, California, Monday, Coca-Cola

2. Explain the function of adjective and give 2 examples of adjective in a complete

sentence.
Answer :
An adjective is one of the nine parts of speech. An adjective is a word that tells
us more about a noun. It "describes" or "modifies" a noun (The big dog was hungry).
In these examples, the adjective is in bold and the noun that it modifies is in italics. An
adjective often comes BEFORE a noun:
Examples : a green car, a dark sky, an interesting story
And sometimes an adjective comes AFTER a verb:
Examples : my car is green, the sky became dark, his story seemed interesting.
But adjectives can also modify pronouns (She is beautiful). Look at these
examples:
Examples : they were empty, I thought it seemed strange, those are not expensive.

3. Explain the function of Verbs and give 2 examples of irregular verbs in a complete
sentence.
Answer :
Verbs are words that show an action (sing), occurrence (develop), or state of
being (exist). Almost every sentence requires a verb. The basic form of a verb is known
as its infinitive. The forms call, love, break, and go are all infinitives.
Almost all verbs have two other important forms called participles. Participles
are forms that are used to create several verb tenses (forms that are used to show when
an action happened); they can also be used as adjectives. The present participle always
ends in -ing: calling, loving, breaking, going. (There is also a kind of noun, called a
gerund, that is identical in form to the present participle form of a verb.) The past
participle usually ends in -ed, but many past participles have irregular endings: called,
loved, broken, gone. The verb's past tense usually has the same -ed form as the past
participle. For many verbs, however, the past tense is irregular. An irregular past tense
is not always identical to an irregular past participle: called, loved, broke, went.

4. Explain the function of adverb and give 2 examples of adverb of manner in a

complete sentence.
Answer :
An adverb is a word that can modify or describe a verb, adjective, another
adverb, or entire sentence. Adverbs can be used to show manner (how something
happens), degree (to what extent), place (where), and time (when).
Adverbs are usually formed by adding -ly to the end of an adjective (e.g.,
“quick” becomes “quickly”), although there are also other adverbs that don’t have this
ending. There are also adverbial phrases, series of words that play the grammatical
role of adverbs.
An adverb of manner describes how an action is performed or how something
happens. In most cases, adverbs of manner occur after the main verb.
examples : jessie read quietly, tom laughed loudly.
