Document Development Exposi on: Instruc ons and Usability Test Script

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to nish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
When I decided to create a veggie lasagna recipe, I knew I had to plan carefully to ensure a clear and
concise document. I started by brainstorming the key steps and ingredients involved in making the
lasagna. I wanted the recipe to be easy to follow for anyone, regardless of their cooking experience.

First Dra (for peer edi ng)

In my rst dra , I listed all the ingredients and steps in a sequen al order. However, when I received
feedback from my professor, I realized there were several areas that needed improvement. The
feedback highlighted the need to avoid sub-steps and limit each step to one ac on and one sentence.
Addi onally, I was advised to start each numbered instruc on with a command and move any
addi onal informa on to a nota on or remove it altogether.

Challenges and overcoming them:

One of the challenges I faced was reorganizing the steps and elimina ng sub-steps. It was di cult to
condense the instruc ons into one ac on per step while maintaining clarity. To overcome this
challenge, I reviewed each step and iden ed any sub-steps or addi onal informa on that could be
moved to separate steps or nota ons. By breaking down complex steps into simpler ac ons, I was
able to make the instruc ons more concise and easier to follow.
Another challenge was removing colons from the headings. Ini ally, I included colons to indicate the
purpose or ac on associated with each sec on. However, according to the feedback, the use of
colons was unnecessary and implied by the design. To address this, I revised the headings by
removing the colons, ensuring they were s ll clear and descrip ve without relying on punctua on.

Learning:
Through this process, I learned the importance of clear and concise communica on in instruc onal
wri ng. By limi ng each step to one ac on and one sentence, I realized how it enhances the
readability and usability of the document. Star ng each instruc on with a command also helps to
provide a clear direc on to the reader.
I also learned the signi cance of di eren a ng between numbered instruc ons and nota ons.
Nota ons, such as ps or warnings, should be forma ed di erently from the numbered instruc ons.
They should appear on their own line, making them dis nct and easy to iden fy. Addi onally, I
learned the importance of using red text only for warnings and cau ons, while di eren a ng the
forma ng of other nota ons.

Document Development Exposi on: Instruc ons and Usability Test Script

Taking into account the feedback and the lessons learned, I proceeded to revise my document for the
nal submission. I carefully reviewed each step and made sure they were numbered correctly, started
with a command, and contained only one ac on. Any addi onal informa on that didn't t into the
impera ve sentence was moved to a nota on or removed altogether.
I also paid a en on to the forma ng and di eren a on of nota ons from the main instruc ons. I
ensured that nota ons appeared on separate lines and were forma ed dis nc vely. Red text was
reserved solely for warnings and cau ons, while other nota ons were forma ed di erently to make
them stand out.

Final Dra (for your por olio)

For the nal dra of the recipe, I re ned the instruc ons further, making sure that every step
followed the guidelines provided by the professor. I reviewed the content to ensure clarity,
consistency, and accuracy. I also proofread the document to eliminate any spelling or gramma cal
errors.
In addi on to the revisions, I created a notes sec on at the end of the document to provide addi onal
informa on and sugges ons for varia ons. This sec on allowed me to include ps on changing the
vegetables used in the recipe and making the lasagna gluten-free. I made sure to di eren ate the
notes sec on from the main instruc ons by forma ng it appropriately.
By following the feedback and incorpora ng the lessons learned, I was able to create a nal dra that
met the professor's requirements. The process of re ning the document taught me valuable lessons
in instruc onal wri ng, including the importance of clarity, conciseness, and e ec ve forma ng.
