A Detailed Lesson Plan in
Deciles for Ungrouped Data

I. CONTENT STANDARDS
The learners demonstrate understanding of key concepts of measures of position.

II. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

The learners is able to conduct systematically a mini-research applying the different
statistical method.

III. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the learners are able to:
a. define decile,
b. solve decile in a set of data for ungrouped data, and;
c. cite the importance of decile for ungrouped data in worded problems.

IV. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Deciles For Ungrouped Data
b. Reference: Mathematics (learners' module unit 4, first edition)
c. Pre-requisite Concepts: Quartile For Ungrouped Data
d. Instructional Materials: cartolina, marker
e. Skills to Develop: Computing, solving
f. Values Integration: accuracy, perseverance
g. Methodology: 4A's (Activity, Analysis, Abstraction, Application)
h. Concepts:
*The decile are the nine score points which divide the distribution into ten equal
parts.
*They are computed in the same way that the Quartile are calculated.
* Dk=kn/10 is the formula. Where D is the decile, k is the number from 1 to 9, n is
the number of samples and 10 is the constant divisor.
* steps in finding decile for ungrouped data.
a. arrange the scores in ascending order,
b. solve decile using this formula dk=kn/10, and;
c. locate the position of the score in the distribution.

Do you want a game class?
(The class will count 1-

respective areas).
Okay! Please count 1-3 and
go to your assigned areas.

This is the mechanics of the

game.There are 3 categories
the easy, average, and
difficult. You only need to
answer all the questions. Each
correct answerhas a
corresponding 1 point for
easy, 3 points for average and
5 points for difficult. I will

who can give me the meaning
of decile? From group 1
Rhonalyn?
Decile are the nine
score points which
divide a distribution
into ten equal parts.
Very good! Decile are the
nine score points which divide
a distribution into ten equal
parts. What is the formula that
was used in finding the decile
for ungrouped data? Ms.
Meryl.

Dk=kn/10.
What is D? k? n? And 10?

D is decile, k is the
number from 1 to 9, n is
the number of sample
and 10 is the constant
divisor.
Excellent! D is decile, k is the
number from 1 to 9, n is the
number of sample and 10 is
the constant divisor.

Abstraction Example:
10 mins Given 50 multiple-choice
items in their final test in
Mathematics, the scores of 30
students are the following:23
38 28 46 22 20 18 34 36 35 45
48 16 22 27 25 29 31 30 25 44
21 18 43 21 26 37 29 13 376.
Calculate the following using
the given data. D2, D3 . In
finding the D2 we first
arrange the data in ascending
order. Danica, please arrange
the data. 13 16 18 18 20 21 21 22
22 23 25 25 26 27 28 29
29 30 31 34 35 36 37 37
38 43 44 45 46 48

Very good! So now what is

the second step in find the
D2? Arian?
Solve the D2 using this
formula Dk=kn/10.
That’s right. What is k? n?
Ben?
k=2, n=30

Very nice! So who can solve

D2=2(30)/10
the D2? Yes April.
D2=60/10
D2=6
Therefore D2=21.

Good Job! What about D3?

Arman please find D3.
k=3, n=30
D3=3(30)/10
D3=90/10
D3=9
Therefore, D3=22.

I think you really understand

our topic for today. Who can
summarize our topic for
We discussed about
today? Yes Vanessa.
decile for ungrouped
data.
D is decile, k is the
number from 1 to 9, n is
the number of sample
and 10 is the constant
divisor.

Dk=kn/10 is the
formula in finding the
decile where k is the
number from 1 to 9, n is
the number of samples
and 10 is the constant
divisor.
Application
Very good! Now who can cite
an importance of decile in We can apply it in
solving worded problems? solving worded problem
Yes jecka. especially when it
involves decile for
ungrouped data.

Very good! I think you are

ready in our quiz. Get 1/2
sheet of paper.

VI EVALUATION
1. Define decile
2.Find the 3rd decile or D3 of the following test scores of a random
sample of ten students:
35 , 42 , 40 , 28 , 15 , 23 , 33 , 20 , 18 and 28. 7
3. Cite importance of decile for ungrouped data in worded problems.
