Introduction
The rules of hygiene and safety at work are very important for society to prevent
accidents and for the best safety of workers.
During the industry revolution, these rules were developed due to the need to improve
the quality of work.

aim of reducing accidents at work.

Objectives of hygiene and safety at work

 Elimination of the causes of occupational diseases;
 Prevention of worsening illnesses and injuries;
 Increased productivity by controlling the working environment.

4
Prevention of accidents at work
Accident preventionis the main objective of OSH and it is an approach that allows us to
offer a safer work environment and reduce accidents at work. In this way, developing
preventive actions to reduce accidents at work, formalizing occupational risk
management practices and forming a culture of work safety are aspects that companies
must value together with their workers.

Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) is increasingly a topic of discussion between

large, medium and small companies and the bodies and/or agencies responsible for
developing, inspecting and controlling safe practices and procedures. It is quite common
in industries in which operational activities that offer risks or unsafe attitudes cause
uncontrollable events that end up raising the worker's exposure levels to factors that
offer occupational risk.

Work accidents end up causing workers to leave, economic and productive impacts, as
well as fatalities among workers. Impacts that translate into statistics related to
Occupational Safety and Health that we must investigate and understand in order to
increase the effectiveness of policies and programs to prevent accidents at work.

Accidents at work: how the company should act

When managing a company and dealing with employees, the entrepreneur must always
be aware of safety, standards to avoid accidents at work.

In view of the consequences of this occurrence for the injured person and for the
employer, it is essential to understand what an accident at work is and how the company
should act in these situations.

An accident at work is one that occurs to an employee in the exercise of professional

activity carried out for the company, causing bodily injury or some functional
disturbance causing loss or reduction of temporary or permanent work capacity, or
death.

It is worth mentioning that the functional disorder encompasses occupational or

professional diseases and those at work. Occupational disease is that caused by the
exercise of the function, being peculiar to a certain activity, and must be included in the
list drawn up by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTPS).

5
Occupational diseases are those acquired or triggered because of the special conditions
in which the employee provides the service, also included in the MTPS list.

In addition, accidents at work are also considered those that occur on the employee's
journey from home to work and during the return journey. In these cases, it is important
to highlight two important points:

 It must take place on the usual route, without detours;

 The travel time of the journey must be compatible with the distance travelled.

If these two characteristics are present, even if the occurrence takes place outside the
working hours and place of work, it will be considered an accident at work.

With this work, we concluded that the safety of workers should be a concern for all of
