Civil/Structural Design Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Civil/Structural Design Engineer
to join the Capital Expenditure (CapEx) team at the Jamalco, Halse Hall location.

Under the direction of the Engineering & Construction Superintendent, this position is accountable
for:
• Reporting to the Engineering & Construction Superintendent on all technical matters of a
civil/structural engineering nature pertaining to assigned tasks.
• Providing engineering assistance to the Project Team Leader for works including, but not limited
to, Solution Analysis Workbook, Contract Book preparation and RFA approvals utilizing Jamalco
authorization procedures.
• Establishing and maintaining good communication and a working relationship with all other
interfacing disciplines.
• Participating in multi-disciplinary design and project teams to deliver the best engineered projects
for Jamalco.
• Preparing all engineering documentation required for the execution of the civil/structural aspects
of the project in support of the Project Team Leaders.
• Providing guidance to the assigned project draftsman in the planning and execution of
drawings/designs.
• Interacting with client representatives and plant personnel as relevant to understand design
requirements and ensuring successful project execution.
• Conducting verification of all civil/structural materials and equipment procured for the project.
• Ensuring the environmental, health and safety principles are a part of the engineered design.
• Performing quality assurance checks along with the construction engineer during the construction
phase of projects at pre-determined hold points.
• All aspects of the project design, including but not limited to adherence to applicable Jamalco
EHS Guidelines and Engineering Standards.
• Understanding the Engineering Document Management (EDM) system and the requirements for
documents to be filed by Document Control.
• Providing timely, accurate and complete information to the Planner/Scheduler ensuring accurate
development and tracking of project schedules.

Qualifications & Experience

To be considered the incumbent must have:-

• A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• A minimum of three (3) years civil/structural design engineering experience, preferably in a
heavy brown-field industry.
• Working knowledge of the Bayer process.
• A demonstrated track record in meeting or exceeding engineering design objectives.
• Proven communication and presentation skills with the ability to quickly and effectively
analyze information received.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Bentley Software and AutoCAD.
