FLIGHT OPERATIONS LETTER

FOL PHE500-008/14
ORIGINAL
SUBJECT: ABNORMAL ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION
November, 05th, 2014
APPLICABILITY: Phenom 100 fleet

DESCRIPTION

Pratt & Whitney Canada released the S.I.L NO. PW600-018 with relevant information about
PW-617F-E engine #4 bearing carbon seal deterioration. In order to act preventively, it is
strongly recommended that operators closely monitor the oil consumption on their engines
and note any sign of high oil consumption, dark oil in the sight glass, low oil pressure
indications or chip detected CAS messages.

Monitor the amount of oil that is being added to the engines by recording the oil volume
filled every time the servicing is performed. Any sign of high oil consumption, as well as the
conditions described above may be an indication of the #4 bearing carbon seal
deterioration.

If operator notices any these conditions, it is recommended to get in contact with Embraer
Contact Center or Pratt & Whitney Canada for additional support and troubleshooting.
Additionally, Pratt & Whitney Canada is promoting an “Oil Acquiring Sampling” program for
engines that have accumulated more than 800 hours since new or last replacement of the
#4 bearing carbon seals, to be performed within the next 50 hours and at 200 hour
intervals.

The oil sampling must be collected through oil chip detector port after engines running at
idle thrust until a stabilized temperature has been achieved, consult Pratt & Whitney
Canada Special Instruction section 7 for the accomplishment instructions. Samples will be
collected in a specific sample kit and sent to PWC for further analysis with all related costs
provided by Pratt & Whitney Canada. Once this procedure is performed, it must be
recorded on Engine’s LogBook.
