ABAP on Cloud – 4 – Your First ABAP Cloud

ABAP on Cloud is a topic which everyone has heard about, but not many have worked
hands on. In our series on ABAP on Cloud, we are trying to consolidate an online free
repository where any beginners can visit and start their journey in this untrodden path of
ABAP on Cloud. That is the reason, we are going very slow and being very elaborate. We
are already on the fourth tutorial of the series and till now we have not written a single line
of code. Hope you understand our dilemma. We really want to show the ABAP code on
cloud, but before we do that, we want to have all the set up configured so that you have all
the arsenal in place to conquer ABAP on the Cloud.

We are really happy to see the responses of the previous articles. They really keep
us motivated. Please let them come in numbers.

In this tutorial, we will look learn how to create our First ABAP Cloud Project in
the Eclipse IDE. The ABAP Cloud Project would pave way for the creation of your
First ABAP Object in the Cloud. Are you excited?

1.    Create your First ABAP Cloud Project

Open the Eclipse workspace and navigate to the ABAP perspective. Click on “Create an
ABAP Project”.

2.   Click on “Service Key” radio button.

3.   Provide the key copied in step “8” in “Service Key in

JSON Format” window in ABAP on Cloud Part 2.

Refer to our ABAP on Cloud – 2 – ABAP Trial Instance on Cloud (Step 8). There we
showed how to generate Service Key.

4.   Paste the Service Key details and click on “Next”.

5.   A new colorful window asking for the credentials pops

up
*Remember: If this screen is not appearing there may be many reasons:

a. There may be restrictions in the Network due to firewall. (check if pop up is disabled in
the browser)

b. Any of the previous steps are NOT followed correctly. In this case, refer to this previous
steps right from beginning and check if anything is missed.

c. Issue with SCP Account.

6.   Provide the SCP account credentials, click on “Log On”,

and wait until authentication is completed and a message
as shown in next step is obtained.
*Note: There are two more options as seen at the bottom of same screen “Log On with
Browser” and “Copy Logon URL”. Both can be tried out as per convenience.

7.   Below screen should complete the registration

process.

8.   In this step just verify the system details and click on
“Next”.

9.   Provide the Project name as per requirement. Can be

defaulted as well.
Any existing packages can also be added by clicking on “Add” as favorite packages.

10. If “Add” was clicked in previous step, then below pop

up appears.

*CAUTION: All the packages are in the public domain and is visible to developers
across the globe. Care needs to be taken NOT to disclose ANY CLIENT information
or personal data/information. After all you are in public cloud.

11.  Add the packages that is likely to be used. Click on

“Finish”.

12. The ABAP perspective should be as shown:

That brings us to the end of the complete guide of all the steps to start our learning and
understanding the ABAP Cloud. We are good to commence our RESTful ABAP
Programming on Cloud from next tutorial. SAP is innovating in leaps and bounds and as
