WALKING ON ROOF
Walking on a roof can be dangerous and should be approached with
caution.
Here are some precautions to keep in mind when walking on a roof:
Roof Condition: Inspect the roof for any signs of damage or weakness before
walking on it. Look for loose or damaged sheets, sagging areas, or any other
signs of structural issues. Avoid walking on roofs that are in poor condition.
Slow and Steady: Move slowly and carefully, taking small steps to maintain
balance. Avoid sudden movements or running on the roof, as they can increase
the risk of slipping or losing footing.
Clear the Roof: Remove any debris, such as leaves, branches, or loose objects,
from the roof before walking on it. These can create tripping hazards or
cause instability underfoot.

STORAGE & PRECAUTIONS
Metal sheet stacks, particularly those made of steel or iron, can be
susceptible to oxidation, which is the process of the metal reacting
with oxygen in the presence of moisture or humidity. Oxidation
commonly results in the formation of white rust, colour peel-off
which can deteriorate the metal over time. Here are some factors
that can contribute to oxidation in metal sheet stacks and how to
mitigate them:
Exposure to Air: Oxygen in the air is necessary for oxidation to occur. If metal
sheet stacks are stored in an area with poor air circulation, it can promote
oxidation. Adequate airflow can help reduce moisture buildup and decrease the
likelihood of oxidation. Consider storing metal sheets in a well-ventilated
cover area.
Proper Handling and Storage: Handle metal sheet stacks with care to avoid
scratching or damaging the protective coatings. Scratches or abrasions can
compromise the protective layer, making the metal more vulnerable to oxidation.
Store metal sheets in a dry, covered area, preferably on pallets or racks to keep
them off the ground and prevent moisture buildup. if stacked of the bundled
product becomes wet, separate it, wipe it with a clean cloth, and stack it to dry
thoroughly.do not drag material over a rough surface or each.

CUTTING
For onsite cutting of thin metals, a circular saw with a circular blade
or cutting tools as recommended. Cut metals over ground and not
on othermaterials.
Keep the roof surface clear of debris and all metallic swarf.
WIND UPLIFT
Preventing wind uplift in metal roofing sheets is crucial to ensure the
roof remains intact during high wind events. Here are some measures
to help prevent wind uplift:
Proper Installation: Ensure that the metal roofing sheets are installed correctly
according to the Geometric Steels specifications and industry standards.
This includes proper fastening and sealing techniques.
Improper installation can compromise the roof's resistance to wind uplift.
Roof Design and Layout: The roof design and layout should consider the wind
load requirements specific to your geographical location. The support less
overhang should not exceed 150mm from the last purlin location. Factors such
as roof slope, shape, and orientation can affect wind uplift resistance.
Secure Fastening: Properly secure the metal roofing sheets with appropriate
fasteners, such as screws with a diamond washer at the eaves end purlin or
metal strip, specifically designed for metal roofing. Follow the Geometric Steels
guidelines for spacing and quantity of fasteners. The fasteners should penetrate
the roofing structure securely to resist uplift forces.
Regular Inspections and Maintenance: Regularly inspect the metal roof for
any damage or loose fasteners. Promptly repair or replace any damaged or
compromised sections. Perform routine maintenance to ensure the roof remains
in good condition and is prepared for high-wind events.
END OF SHEETS
Allow roof sheets to overlap into gutters by about 50mm. If the pitch of
roof is less than 5 or extreme weather is expected the valleys of sheets
should be turned down at lower ends and turned up at upper ends by
about 80° . The overhang of sheets are not meant for foot traffic.
