City Hospitals
Sept. 27, Jalandhar

-Sunil
With a view to study the medical facilities
available in different hospitals of the city. I visited
almost all the prominent hospitals like Tagore, Patel,
Lajwanti etc. last week. Most of these hospitals are
famous throughout the state of Punjab for providing
twenty-four hour emergency facilities. What struck
me at the first sight was that no hospital had a proper
parking arrangement. The moment I entered, I was
impressed by the sanitary conditions and the sweet
conciliatory manner of the receptionist and the
nursing staff. Except, the civil hospital, where
parking facility is there but the staff is comparatively
rude, all the hospitals are well maintained. Highly
qualified doctors, specialists in their own fields, are
on the rolls of the hospitals. The functioning in most
of these hospitals is computerized.
Although there is heavy rush in most of these
hospitals and the patients have to wait for two/three
hours to meet the doctor, yet the presence of well
equipped labs in each hospital saves much of the time
and trouble of the patients. Not to speak of x-ray,
ultra sound scanning even MRI facility is available in
most of the hospitals.

Emergency facilities are easily available. You

have just to ring up and within ten/fifteen minutes
the ambulance will be at
your door. Once the patient
is in the hands of the
hospital staff you have no need
to worry.

The only thing which pinches the patients most

1Sthe huge consultation fee of the doctors
and the
rent of the rooms
which I feel is exorbitant. The
patients are happy that they are well treated and
Tthey get better also but the glow on their faces
disappears when they foot the bill.
