2 What are permanent magnets and explain the applications of permanent magnetic materials in
detail.

4 (a) Derive the e.m.f equation of a DC generator.


(b) A six pole lap wound DC generator has 720 conductors, a flux of 40 mWb per pole is driven
at 400 r.p.m. Find the generator e.m.f.

11 A 3-phase transformer is used to step-down the voltage of a 3-phase, 11 kV feeder line. Per-phase
turns ratio is 12. For a primary line current of 20 A, calculate the secondary line voltage, line current
and output kVA for the following connections: (i) Star-delta. (ii) Delta-star. (iii) Delta-delta.
(iv) Star-star.
