Learning Outcomes

By completing this project, students should be able to:

1. Analyse problem identified in the utilisation of special concrete using fundamental

concepts of engineering materials. (CO1-PO2)

2. Explain the operational performance problem of special concrete to meet specified

needs of safety and environmental considerations. (CO2-PO3)

Objectives

1. To understand the use of different types of special concrete in constructions.

2. To address the properties, materials selection, formulation, design, analysis,

performance evaluation and limitation of the special concrete.

Project Descriptions

1. Students are to work in a given group (see Appendix 1) to prepare a video

presentation on a case study of the chosen type of special concrete shown in Table 1.

Table 1: Types of Concrete

No. Topic
C1 Blended Cement Concrete
C2 Geopolymer Concrete
C3 Polymer Concrete
C4 Bio Concrete
C5 Lightweight Concrete
C6 Nano Concrete
C7 Self-Consolidating Concrete
C8 Recycle Aggregate Concrete

2. Students can choose any case study related to engineering structure/application.

3. The video duration is 5 minutes and presentation of the case study must include:

a) Introduction/Problem statement
b) Basic concept
c) Summary of properties, design procedures and data analysis/results
d) Discussion and conclusion

4. The criteria performance rubrics shall be referred to as a guideline to prepare the video
accordingly.

5. Students must upload the video to a Youtube channel by Week 12. Then, submit Page
1 & Page 2 of this Project Brief together with an attached video link on Page 2.

6. Save the file as (example) GROUP 1_ECS536 COURSE PROJECT.pdf and attached
