Adjectives and Adverbs

John loves fast cars. (adjective)


John drives fast.

A late student came into the classroom.


I got up late this morning.

Comparativo

Igualdade:
af.: Mary is as beautiful as Joan.

neg: Mary is not as beautiful as Joan.

Mary is not so beautiful as Joan.

Inferioridade: Mary is less beautiful than Joan.

Superioridade: adj. (de uma ou duas sílabas)

Mary is nicer than Joan. (nice)


Mary is prettier than Joan. (pretty)

Mary is more intelligent than Susan.

Superlativo

The + adj. + est (de uma ou duas sílabas)


She’s the nicest girl in the classroom.
The most + adj. (para outros adjetivos).
She’s the most beautiful woman in the city.
The least + adj

Formas irregulares

good – better than – the best


bad – worse than – the worst
far – farther than – the farthest.
Expressões com comparativo de superioridade = cada vez
mais

The weather is getting colder and colder.


The city is more and more interesting.

The + comparativo … the + comparativo = quanto


mais…mais
The easier the better.
The more expensive the more difficult to buy.
