II. Answer the following questions:

1. What is the importance of hand washing during this time of COVID 19 pandemic. How can
handwashing and hand rubbing prevent spread of COVID 19?
- The importance of hand washing during this time of COVID 19 pandemic is that
because Hands are of the most common ways that the virus spreads from one person to
another. These germs and viruses are spread by not washing your hands properly with soap and
cleaning running water. Respiratory viruses like coronavirus disease (COVID-19) spread when
mucus or droplets containing the virus get into your body through your eyes, nose and throat.
Most often, this happens through your hands. Hand washing and Hand rubbing prevents the
spread of COVID-19 for the reason that it helps us in a specific way to avoid getting sick and
spreading germs to others.

2. During handwashing, why is it important to scrub the hands for 20 seconds?

- It is essential to scrub your hands for 20 seconds too remove harmful germs and
chemicals from your hands.
3. How does handwashing with soap and water remove germs and chemicals?

- when you work soap and water into a lather, it traps germs and chemicals and removes them

from your hands. Wetting your hands with clean water before applying soap can help you work up a better lather,

which forms pockets (micelles) that trap germs from your hands. Then when you rinse your hands, these germs are

washed away.
4. What is the importance of wearing PPE in this time of pandemic?
- Personal protective equipment, or "PPE," is clothing worn to reduce exposure to risks
that might result in significant workplace diseases and injuries. Every single day, healthcare
workers depend on personal protective equipment to keep themselves and their patients safe
from the transmission of viruses and harmful diseases. Yet, PPE is now more crucial than ever
due to the coronavirus epidemic that is spreading like wildfire.

5. What is the proper way to dispose of PPE?

- 1. Remove gloves. Ensure glove removal does not cause additional contamination of hands.
Gloves can be removed using more than one technique (e.g., glove-in-glove or bird beak).
2. Remove gown. Untie all ties (or unsnap all buttons). Some gown ties can be broken rather than
untied. Do so in gentle manner, avoiding a forceful movement. Reach up to the shoulders and
carefully pull gown down and away from the body. Rolling the gown down is an acceptable
approach. Dispose in trash receptacle. *
3. Healthcare personnel may now exit patient room.
4. Perform hand hygiene.
5. Remove face shield or goggles. Carefully remove face shield or goggles by grabbing the strap
and pulling upwards and away from head. Do not touch the front of face shield or goggles.
6. Remove and discard respirator (or facemask if used instead of respirator). Do not touch
the front of the respirator or facemask.*
o Respirator: Remove the bottom strap by touching only the strap and bring it carefully
over the head. Grasp the top strap and bring it carefully over the head, and then pull the
respirator away from the face without touching the front of the respirator.
o Facemask: Carefully untie (or unhook from the ears) and pull away from face without
touching the front.
7. Perform hand hygiene after removing the respirator/facemask and before putting it on
again if your workplace is practicing reuse.*

6. Why is it important to dispose of PPE properly?

- It’s important to remove and dispose of PPE properly to minimise the risk of injury or the
spread of infection between one person to another. Once PPE has been used it should be disposed of after a
single use. Any business or setting that uses PPE has a duty of care to staff, visitors and customers to dispose of
waste correctly.
7. What situation requires PPE in the hospital?
Personal protective equipment, or "PPE," is clothing worn to reduce exposure to risks
that might result in significant workplace diseases and injuries. Contact with chemical,
radioactive, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other job hazards may cause these wounds and
illnesses.
