Recommended Optimum Placement of the 4 ¾” SuperJar for

Fishing Operations

If you are using an overshot, you could run the overshot + 1 drill collar + 4 ¾”
SuperJar + 5 to 6 drill collars.

If you run too many drill collars above the Jar it will not impact as hard on the fish,
as the stretch in the drill pipe will assist by acting as an accelerator for the Jar.

If you decided to screw into the fish, you could either run a joint of Hevi wate drill
pipe or a drill collar below the Jar to screw into the fish.

Most times you will probably want to Jar up.

To do this:
1 make a note of the exact string weight just prior to screwing into the fish or
latching on with the overshot.

2 After you have attached to the fish and attempted to circulate, slack off to
cock the Jar, there will be about 18” of free travel and then the weight will
start to reduce as the Jar starts to pressure up on the down piston, stop at
this point and immediately start pulling up to whatever over pull above the
string weight that you are comfortable with and that the rig can handle, and
stop there.

3 Wait for the Jar to fire, the Jar is tested in the test rack at 60,000 over pull
and usually fires after 30 to 40 seconds, with less over pull it will take
longer for the oil to bypass the piston to fire and you may have to wait for
50 to 90 seconds depending on the over pull .

4 If you want to Jar down, just slack off the 18” free travel and keep slacking
off until the required down weight on the fish is noted, depending on how
hard you want to bump down. Wait for the Jar to fire, usually between 30 to
40 seconds at 25,000 down weight, so you may have to wait longer with
less down weight.

When Jarring be careful that no one is standing on the Rig floor where anything
loose overhead could come loose or fall on them if the Jarring caused the derrick
to shake, any reaction at surface will depend on the depth that the Jars are at.
