17
ACEMAX – Surveillance Service
Display ground movement of cooperative and non-cooperative
targets on an airport map

18
A-SMGCS Aiport Safety Support Service

Contributes to Airside operations as a safety improvement by

- Anticipating potential conflicts

- Detecting conflicts and incursions

- Detecting mobiles that are not following given clearances and instructions

- Providing alerts.

19
CMAC Example – Take-off without Clearance

20
ARIWS – Autonomous Runway Incursion
Warning System: RWSL
Runway Status Lights (RWSL) is a fully automatic, advisory safety system
designed to reduce the number and severity of runway incursions and thus
prevent runway accidents while not interfering with airport operations.

• Operational in US (FAA) for a couple of years

• ICAO Annex 14 Ammendment 13 (applicable Nov. 2016)

• Provide additional light infrastructure to warn aircraft or vehicles involved in a

conflicting scenario.
• Based soley on surveillance input, no manual interference necessary

ADB Safegate can provide the full package, i.e. light infrastructure and RWSL
Processor

21
ARIWS – Autonomous Runway Incursion
Warning System: RWSL
Three different types:
• Runway Entrance Lights (RELs) are placed at
runway/taxiway intersections and warn pilots
and vehicle drivers if it is unsafe to enter or
cross a runway because it is, or soon will be,
occupied by high-speed traffic such as an
aircraft taking off or landing.

• Takeoff Hold Lights (THLs) are placed on

runways at departure positions and are visible
to pilots in takeoff position. It warns pilots it is
unsafe to takeoff because the runway ahead is
occupied by another aircraft or vehicle.

• Runway Intersection Lights (RILs) are placed

on runways approaching a runway/runway
intersection. It warns pilots in a takeoff or
landing roll that the intersection ahead is unsafe
to enter or cross because a conflict exists.

Guidance Service

Provides automated switching of visual aids in conjunction with controller

inputs, providing guidance information to any mobile which has a cleared taxi
route:

- Taxiway Centreline Lights (TCL)

- Stop Bars

- A-VDGS

Other guidance means are partly or fully depending on on-board installations,

meaning the airport has no control about the level of service it can provide
Follow the Green – HMI indication

Indication of Follow the Green

- Active lights (bright green)

- Cleared and non-cleared route
(dimmed green vs. grey lines)
- Route behind stop bar (green

- Fixed intermediate point (large
greed dot)
- Intermediate holding point

DIFLIS
Digital Flight
Strips
DIFLIS – Digital Flight Strips

DIFLIS Workspace

▪ Workspace is divided
into bays
▪ Strips are arranged
in stacks
▪ Toolbar
at the bottom edge

Ergonomic principles
▪ Minimize number of clicks
▪ Minimize hand movement
▪ Hand should not cover displayed information

29
DIFLIS – Digital Flight Strips

DIFLIS Strips

▪ Strips are arranged in stacks

▪ Bay denotes current status
▪ Strip sequence for planning

Multiple ways to mark strips

for exceptional circumstances
▪ Flag (horizontally)
▪ Mark (special strip color)
▪ Magnetic strips
▪ Handwritten annotations

31
DIFLIS – Digital Flight Strips

DIFLIS Workflow Support

Procedures are based on type of movement (inbound, outbound, etc)

and the concerned sectors.
Between sectors there may be a hand-over of responsibility.

32
DIFLIS – Digital Flight Strips

DIFLIS Action Button

The Action button gives access to the next workflow step that is most likely.
Additional information can be displayed on the action button (e.g. next
frequency, clearance limit)
When two options are both likely: two Action buttons

More choices and options are available by Long-click.

Deviation from predefined workflow is always possible.
Transfer and information to remote units is supported (OLDI message)

33
INFOMAX –
Information
System

34
INFOMAX Concept

• Provides means to arrange, control and monitor functions for auxiliary

systems in a single software application

• Numerous ATC specific information and controls

• Access to all needed data and information from one screen

• Reduces clutter on controller working positions

• Allows ATC to interact with the system using a customized graphical (H)uman
(M)achine (I)nterface

OPTAMOS –
Departure
Management

39
What is your performance problem?

• Runway capacity is limiting factor, should be increased for higher throughput

• Congestion on ground should be avoided to decrease fuel consumption, CO2 emission

• Controller workload should be reduced

• Data Sharing between individual stakeholders (A-CDM) to increase predictability

40
Current Traffic Situation

Congestion at Runway Holding Point

• Increased workload for tower controller
• Unnecessary fuel consumption at holding point

41
OPTAMOS Departure Management -
Your Solution
Calculate Variable Taxi Time (Pushback and Taxiing)

Compute Target Take-Off Time (TTOT)

Control number of aircraft at holding point

• derive Target Holding Point Queue Time (THPQT)

Compute target startup approval time (TSAT) of aircraft to be at holding point at

the target time

=> Fully compliant with A-CDM (pre-departure sequencing)

42
OPTAMOS User Interface

43
DMAN – Online Configuration

Change DMAN systems by customers about

• Current runway configuration (direction, category)

• Pending runway configuration changes

• Runway capacity (departures and arrivals)

• Taxi time multiplier (extend taxi times in case of bad weather)

• Minimum separation distance adjustment (bad weather)

44
TSAT Display in DIFLIS (EFSS)

Display countdown until TSAT in Flight Strip

Indicate CTOT countdown
