Business Leadership: Four Factors That Make a Successful Leader

The introduction of the paper begins here. Double-space throughout the paper, including

the title page, body of the document, and references. The body of the paper begins on a new page

(page 2). Subsections of the body of the paper do not begin on a new page. The title of the paper

(in uppercase and lowercase letters) is centered and bolded on the first line below the page

number. The introduction (which is not labeled) begins on the line following the paper title.

Heading (Heading Level 1)

Headings are used to organize the document and reflect the relative importance of

sections. Level 1 headings are centered, bold, title case headings (e.g., Reflecting on Features).

Level 2 headings use flush left, bold, title case headings (e.g., Effects of Format on Response).

Level 3 headings are flush left, bold, italic, title case headings. Three heading levels is average

but there can be more or less depending on the paper length.

In-Text Citations (Heading Level 2)

Source material must be documented in the body of the paper by citing the author(s) and

date(s) of the sources. This is to give proper credit to the ideas and words of others. The reader

can obtain the full source citation from the list of references that follows the body of the paper.

The in-text citations must match the reference list and vice-versa. When the names of the authors

of a source are part of the formal structure of the sentence, the year of the publication appears in

parenthesis following the identification of the authors, e.g., Jones (2016) stated that...

Text Citations for Resources With One or Two Authors (Heading Level 3)

When a source has one or two authors, include the author name(s) in every citation, e.g.

(Taylor & Hardy, 2019).

Text Citations for Three or More Authors (Heading Level 3)

3

When a source has three or more authors, include the name of only the first author and

“et al.” in every citation, including the first citation, unless this would cause confusion, e.g.

(Garcia et al., 2019).

Text Citations for Multiple Sources in One Sentence (Heading Level 3)

When the names of the authors of a source are not part of the formal structure of the

sentence, both the authors and years of publication appear in parentheses, alphabetically in the

same order in which they appear in the reference list, separated by semicolons, e.g. (Garcia et al.,

2019; Taylor & Hardy, 2019).

Quoting (Heading Level 2)

“When quoting, always provide the author, year, and specific page citation. If the source

does not contain page numbers, provide another way of locating the passage, paragraph number,

heading or section name, or a combination” (American Psychological Association [APA], 2019,

p. 273).

A quotation of fewer than 40 words should be enclosed in double quotation marks and

should be incorporated into the formal structure of the sentence (as seen above). If the

quotation comprises 40 or more words, display it in a freestanding block of text and omit

the quotation marks. Start each block quotation on a new line and indent the block a half

inch (0.5 in.) from the left margin (in the same position as a new paragraph). The citation

goes after the period in this case. (APA, 2019, p. 272)

Conclusion (Heading Level 1)

The conclusion should summarize key points from the paper.
