SECTION A: (40 marks)

This section is compulsory

1. (a) Using any word processor of your choice, type the following word document as it
is and save it as machine cycle and your personal number e.g. machine cycle_001
in the folder you have created to save your work. (05 marks)

The machine cycle


For every instruction, the control unit repeats a set of four basic operations called the
machine cycle or instruction cycle.

Most processors used by personal cputers today support pipelining.


Pipelining means that the CPU begins executing a second instruction before the first
instruction is completed, and the result is faster proceeessing.

Most new processors cccan pipeline up to four instructions.


Superscalar CPUs have two or more pipelines that can process instructions
simultaneously.
The four basic operations of the machine cycle are
Fetching is the processss of obtaining a program instruction or data iteeem from
memory. The time taken to fetch is called instruction time, or I-time.
Decoding is the process of translating the instruction into comands that the computer
understands.
Executing is the process of carrying ouut the commands. The time taken to decode and
execute is called execution time, or E-time.
Storing is the process of writing the result to memory

Instructions:

a) Change the title to uppercase, font size 14, font style Script MT Bold and centered
(03 marks)
b) Make the body of the text font size 14.5, and use 1.5 line space for the entire
document (02 marks)
c) Drop cap in the second paragraph of the text line to drop 4 and distance from the
text is 0.4 (02 marks)
d) Correct all the necessary spelling and grammar (01 marks)
e) Highlight the first paragraph with a text highlighter “bright green” (01 marks)
f) Underline the words: Instructions whenever it appears in the document (01 mark)
g) Use numbering lists to format the basic operations of the machine cycle (01 mark
h) Write you name in the header and you personal number in the footer (02 marks)
i) Write “machine cycle diagram to be drawn” as an endnote marked on the last
sentence of the document (01 mark)
j) Print a your work (01 mark)

(b) IMAX Services Limited is a company dealing in computer accessories. The table
below shows the sales they made at the end of March 2014.

(i) Enter the above data into an electronic spreadsheet starting from A1 to C8.

(ii) Convert the UNIT COST (Ug shs) to UNIT COST (€) if €1 is equivalent of Ug
Shs. 3000 in D2 to D8 respectively. Format your figures to two decimal places
(03 marks)
(iii) Create more two columns in your worksheet at D1 with the heading “TOTAL
COST (Ug shs)” and TOTAL COST (€), and by use of a formula or a function
find the total for each item. (04 marks)
(iv) Insert an empty column between QUANTITY and UNITCOST (Ug Shs) and
name it “TAX”. Fill this column with TAX values which is 10% of the unit cost.
(03 marks)

(v) Create an extra column after total cost (€). Name it comment and use a formula
to enter in the comment either “BULK” or “LIGHT” for quantity bought
exceeding 100 (02 marks)
(vi) Arrange the items in descending order according to “quantity” and rename
sheet one as sales (02 marks)
(vii) Include a footer with your name and personal number (01 mark)
(viii) Save your work as your Imax (01 mark)
(ix) Print your work (01 mark)
