CHAPTER I
Introduction

In this era where technology is rapidly increasing, people nowadays are forgetting that
there is a more powerful tool that can utilize with regards to grammar structure development
and that is the help of reading poetry. Grammar is a fundamental component of language
learning and plays an important role in good communication and writing. The capacity of
students to produce grammatically accurate sentences is critical for academic performance
and overall language skills.

Background of the Study

Poetry has been found to have a positive impact on students' grammar construction.
Through exposure to poetry, students can develop a greater understanding and appreciation of
the nuances of language, including the rules of grammar and syntax.

One of the key benefits of poetry is that it often uses complex sentence structures and
a variety of literary devices, such as metaphor and simile, that can challenge students to think
more deeply about language and how it is constructed. This can lead to improved grammar
skills, as students learn to identify and use more sophisticated sentence structures and
vocabulary. Moreover, poetry encourages students to pay attention to the rhythm and cadence
of language, which can also improve their grammar skills. By listening to the sound and flow
of the words, students may develop a better understanding of sentence structure, punctuation,
and grammar rules.

In addition, poetry can serve as a creative outlet for students to experiment with
language and express their thoughts and feelings uniquely and artistically. This can help
students become more confident and skilled writers, which can further enhance their
grammar construction abilities.

Overall, the study of poetry can provide a rich and engaging way for students to
develop their grammar construction skills, as well as their overall language proficiency.
