1.

Digital divide is the gap between people who can access the internet freely at their disposal
and people who are restricted from accessing the internet. This can be caused by a number
of factors such as: Geography, economics, disability and fear of IT. Geography is usually the
problem of the country since some countries have a lower GDP than others or the country
may be unaware of technology. Economics is a money issue. Fear of IT develops from old
age and disability is when the person is physically unable to.

2. Educated vs Uneducated people this can be because Educated people are more aware and
are more suited to operate with new technologies while Uneducated people are less aware
and do not have the skillset to use new technologies. Poor vs rich people, poor people have
a harder time affording newer technologies as they tend to be pricier. Old vs young people,
old people have a harder time learning to operate new technologies as they need to follow
complex instructions. Urban vs rural people, people in urban areas have more access to
technologies due to shops compare to people living in rural areas. Disabled vs non-disabled
people disabled people are restricted from technology as they are unable to use it (ex:
blindness against displays).

3. This is considered a geography type of digital divide. This is when the nation is unable to
purchase/import newer technology or it is because the nation is unaware of new
technologies. This causes its population to not be able to purchase or try new technologies
which causes a digital divide against MEDC (more economically developed countries). This
can also mean that the population of the country is poorer than MEDC since this country is
considered less developed which means it has a smaller gdp therefore its population has less
income.

4. A) Poor vs rich,

Techers have a hard time since there are different devices that support different softwares.
Underprivileged students don’t have inter access at home.

B) School provide their own device for the students. School sets up charity for poor students
who cannot afford device. Teachers are trained to use apps or teaching methods that are
applicable through all device that use different OS.

5. Areas like rural areas do not have broadband connections the people living there have no
internet access. This is because the infrastructure on urban areas are higher than the
infrastructure in rural areas. Lack of knowledge of broadband internet. Lack of money for
buying devices that can access broadband internet. They could extend faster broadband to
rural areas. Educate the people there using government programs.
