5. METHOD STATEMENT
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
5.1 STORAGE AND HANDLING OF MATERIALS
 All material received at site shall be inspected, handled and stored upon receipt in
accordance to manufacturer’s recommendations.
 All received materials shall be checked for conformance with approvals by store keeper, QC
Engineer and project engineer before offering for any kind of inspection.
 All material shall be as per approved material submittal.
 Inspection and testing shall be conducted by the MEP site QC Inspector and to be
coordinated with Main Contractor QC Inspector and Client Representative.
 While issuing from site store, ensure that the material is free of any damage or deformity of
any kind.
 The work area shall be inspected for completion and safety to start the pressure testing of
piping.
 All supports shall be secured to the building structure with approved fixing, brackets,
hangers etc.
 Prior to start of the hydrostatic pressure testing all other works on the system shall have been
snagged by construction team and de-snagged and signed off by the quality department.
5.2 PRESSURE TESTING OF CHILLED WATER PIPES
 The chilled water piping shall be tested according to the system requirement working
pressure. In no case shall any piping be subjected to pressure exceeding the ratings as
prescribed by the manufacturer or accepted engineering standards for piping and fittings.
 Prior to hydrostatic pressure testing, site engineer will ensure that calibrated pressure gauges
are available and are in good condition.
 The piping may be tested in sections.
 If leakages are observed, repair the leakages immediately. If leakages are major, isolate the
leaking portion with nearest isolating valve and /or stop the water filling.
 Rectify the leakages and again fill the water.
 Ensure no leakages throughout the entire piping system.
 Observe for leakages and pressurize the system using hydraulic test pump.
 During pressurization observe the joint and entire piping system for leakages.
 Pressurize the system till pressure on the pressure gauge at lowest part of the system
indicates the required pressure.
 During hot ambient conditions system pressure may raise due to increase in the ambient
temperature. Ensure under no circumstances the system is pressurized above required
pressure.
 Observe the pressure gauge readings and ensure that there are no leakages.
 Raise inspection request for witnessing the hydraulic pressure testing by company.
 Proceed with insulation only after satisfactory completion of hydrostatic pressure testing and
approval/acceptance by the company is obtained.

6. SAFETY
 All site safety procedures will be implemented and complied with, according to HSE plan and
procedures.
 Site Engineer/ Safety Officer to hold tool box meeting before the work will commence and will
be recorded.
 All personnel will be equipped with minimum personnel protective equipment hard hat, coveralls
and safety boots.
 Fitting, thread and connections will be checking up for broken or unthread parts.
 Make sure everyone in testing area knows that the pressure test will be done and proper tags to
be displayed.
 Ensure that all pipes fastened properly.
 Warning signs will be display in both English and local language.
 Restrict access for common people to testing area, use communication system for
announcements etc.
 All personnel must fully understand the method of testing of Chilled Water Pipes.
 After test is complete the pressure should be released slowly and open all valves once the
pressure is zero, to ensure that there is no pressure trapped anywhere in the system.
