CHAPTER-1 ELECTRIC CHARGES AND FIELD

DPP-2 TOPIC- ELECTRIC FIELD
1. Two point charges +16q and -4q are located at x=0 and x=L. The location of the point on the axis at which
resultant electric field due to charges is zero, is :
(a) 8L (b) 6L (c) 4L (d) 2L
2. Draw the pattern of electric field lines, when a point charge -Q is kept near an uncharged conducting plate.
3. Why do the electric field lines never cross each other?
4. Why must electrostatic field normal to surface at every point of a charged conductor?
5. Why should electrostatic field be zero inside a conductor?
6. A proton is placed in a uniform field directed along positive x-axis. In which direction will tend to move?
7. Two point charges +5 × 10−19 𝐶 and +20 × 10−19 𝐶 are separated by a distance 2 m. Find the point on the line
joining them at which electric field intensity is zero.
8. ABCD is a square of side 5m. Charges of +50C, -50C and +50 C are placed at A, C and D respectively. Find the
resultant electric field at B.
9. Two point charges +6q and -8q are placed at the vertices B and C of an equilateral triangle ABC of side ’a’ cm.
Obtain an expression for the magnitude and direction of electric field at the vertex A due to these charges.
10. An electron and a proton are kept in the same electric field. Will they experience same force and have same
acceleration.
11. Draw the pattern of electric field lines, when a point charge -Q is kept near an uncharged conducting plate.
12. An electron falls through a distance of 1.5 cm in a uniform electric field of magnitude 2 × 104 𝑁/𝐶. Calculate the
time it takes to fall through this distance starting from rest. If the direction of the field is reversed keeping
magnitude unchanged, calculate time taken by a proton to fall through this distance starting from rest.
