Dear Senator Garcia,

I am writing to you as a social work student from UCF regarding improving care for students
who have epilepsy and seizure disorders.

I wish to express my support for the improved care for students who have epilepsy and seizure
disorders. Having experienced the same at a young age, I did not know what to do, and many of
my peers avoided me and eventually resulted in stigmatization. The occurrence resulted in me
having a lot of traumas, but I eventually managed to come out. Unfortunately, what makes the
situation worse is the fact that there is no plan to deal with the problem in schools, and hence the
students continue to be subjected to the same.

Therefore, I ask that your office develop a clear and concise policy that will be implemented to
ensure that schools allow families to create and have a specific personalized seizure action plan
from the families of affected students. Such care and action plan will help the school personnel
provide the needed assistance to a student experiencing a seizure. Moreover, I ask that the
policy require that school employees attend training related to the care of students with the
seizure action plan.
