Documented Essay #1: Education

There are many people that like to argue back and forth that many people don’t deserve

to go to college. It lowers the value of a higher education and overall memorable experience. It is

the exact opposite it can help you in different ways. Going to college, any college depending on

what you want to be can really help you make valuable connections, have more job

opportunities, and you can have simpler access to benefits and healthcare.

College can help you make valuable connections. Connections with people in your field

like in business or in fashion. For example, “Attending college gives you the opportunity to meet

new people of different backgrounds with unique interests, increasing your chances of

connecting with people in your potential career field…You never know who is going to help you

land your dream job, or connect you with the right person who will” (“Why Is College

Important?”). Having connections, especially in the field you want to work in the future can

really help you find a well-paying job and eventually the job of your dreams. Another example

is, “college graduates made $2.8 million on average over the course of their lives, compared to

high school graduates’ $1.6 million on average. This is a 75% boost in wages” (Admission). Not

only can you find a job you can earn good money with those good connections.

Secondly, college can help you get more job opportunities. The experience you get from

going to college can help with your resume. Like getting internships depending on the major you

are in. With certain jobs, one of the things they are looking for is a higher form of education. For

example, “We have shifted from a manufacturing-based economy to a knowledge-based

economy, which makes having a college education especially important these days. Regardless

of what career field plan to commit to, you will likely benefit from going to college!” (Why Is

College Important?”). A lot of jobs today involve a lot of information-based data that will be

used in day-to-day life. For example, if you want to be a lawyer. You have to go to law school

before finding a job at a law firm and even then you still have to use the knowledge that you

learned for every case. That is how you get more job opportunities.

There are jobs now that don’t involve getting a higher form of education. Only needing a

high school diploma/GED or in some cases nothing at all, but that is a really low chance.

According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are over two-thirds of jobs throughout

don’t require a college degree and wages vary. That is over 66% of jobs (Farrell). The only

problem is, “that occupations with small employment may have relatively few openings each

year despite projected fast growth over the decade” (Farrell). This is a big reason why a lot of

careers in business or in law require a college degree or more.

Finally, college can help you have simpler access to healthcare. Over 52% of people with

only a high school diploma have access to employer-sponsored health insurance. Unlike people

with a college degree who have 64% access (Admission). Having a healthcare plan like

insurance can really help when you have an emergency that involves either you being in the

hospital or a family member having a medical emergency. Also, not only will you have easy

access to healthcare, but you will also have easy access to benefits. For example, “Additionally,

access to additional benefits like paid time off for vacation and illness, stock options, student

loan assistance, and retirement plans is more prevalent among college graduates” (Admission).

Comparing with both high school and college. College graduates have a higher percentage when

having access to a retirement plan.

Going to college can help improve your quality of life. It would be opening up more

opportunities and more hands-on learning. Transitioning to college from high school will be a

different experience than before and it will take some time to get used to, but it will be worth it in

the long run. If people are still being told and are arguing that some people don’t deserve to go to

college, a lot of people are not going to try and are going to have a lot of setbacks. They are not

going to work to live their best lives. In order to make things easier people must encourage

others to continue their education and to learn.
