Effect :
A chair is placed on the stage. A volunteer is asked to join the stage and is asked to sit.
A deck of cards is handed over to him/her and then is asked to shuffle it thoroughly. A
card is then selected and placed back somewhere in the middle of the deck. You then
read their mind and reveal the card which only the volunteer knew. For the kicker
ending, the volunteer is asked to get off the chair – the chair is flipped and a prediction is
found to be stuck under the chair which reveals the volunteer’s selected card.

Secret :
The card which the volunteer selects is forced. Before the performance, write the name
of the forced card on a sheet of paper and stick it under the chair. You’re ready to go.

Performance & Method :

The chair is already on stage. Ask a volunteer to join you and ask him/her sit on the
chair. Hand over the deck to your volunteer to be shuffled and examined carefully. Take
back the deck and hold it casually. To bring the forced card on top of the deck or the
bottom (depending on your force method), use a misdirection. Ask your volunteer
casual questions – like “What is your good name, sir?” or “Let us get this clear. We haven’t
prepared anything from before, right?” while you secretly go through the deck and bring
the card to the desired position. Remember to make eye contact with your volunteer
from time to time, so that it doesn’t look like you’re doing anything fishy.
Once you’ve got the card at the desired location, you can use any method to force the
card. I like to use the Hindu Force as it is very easy and also quite deceptive. After
forcing the card, ask your volunteer to remember it and then place it back in the middle
of the deck. Hand over the deck to your volunteer and ask him/her to hold it tightly
between their hands so that there’s no chance of you knowing the identity of their card.
From here, it’s just a matter of presentation. Act as if you’re really reading their mind –
looking into their eyes and touching their forehead helps in creating drama and I highly
recommend you to do that. Finally take a deep breath and reveal their selection.
Everyone will be shocked at this moment. For the kicker ending don’t rush too much.
Just take a moment, ask your volunteer to move out of the chair, then flip it over to
reveal the prediction which has been there the whole time.
I got the inspiration for this trick from the classic chair test. I wanted a test method
which involved only one volunteer, an easy method of prediction and which involved
minimal amount of sleight of hand. You will soon see after performing this trick a few
times, that it is nothing more than simple when you practice the scripting. I would like to
thank you again for supporting me in my journey by downloading this PDF.
