Seven Sundays: Movie Analysis

1. Why does the movie entitled 7 Sundays?

"Seven Sundays" is a Filipino family drama film released in the year 2017. It tells

the story of the Bonifacio siblings, who are now all adults and leading separate and different

lifestyles, reunite after finding out that their father was diagnosed with cancer. The film is

titled “Seven Sundays” due to the reason that the Bonifacio siblings must spend seven

Sundays in a row together as part of their father's final request, in hopes that the siblings

will get a chance to get back in touch, make amends, and work out the problems that have

been straining their relationships with one another. Over the course of these seven Sundays,

the siblings were able to set aside their differences for the sake of their father, which led

them to understand the value of family and the significance of supporting each other no

matter what happens, either good or bad. The title “Seven Sundays” highlights how

important those times spent together by the family and how it plays a huge role in healing

and reuniting the Bonifacio family.

2. Choose one character in the movie that you can relate your life situation and why? Hence,

what should be done to become a better person?

Among the 4 siblings in the film “Seven Sundays” I relate myself the most to the

youngest sibling, Dexter Bonifacio. Like Dexter, I myself, is also the youngest sibling and

the youngest among the 1st cousins. As shown in the film, Dexter felt a bit left out for not
being born earlier, he missed out on some of the family’s milestones and was left alone

growing up for his siblings began to have their own lives. In addition being the youngest

among the Bonifacio siblings, the older siblings tend to not value or even hear Dexter’s

own suggestions and opinions, I assume that they will always view Dexter as a child, their

baby brother. Although there is nothing wrong with viewing younger siblings as still a

kid/baby, people must not forget that they are also growing up and start to have their own

mind, views, and values in life. Among all of these, the reason why I related to Dexter is

that I also feel that my suggestions or opinions are not being fully heard by people, because

I am still young.

During the film Dexter started to become vulnerable about what he is feeling for

being left out on things. This made the rest of the family realize their shortcomings in

Dexter’s life. After knowing what Dexter has been feeling, each of the family member tried

to make it up to Dexter, for Manuel Bonifacio, he became a present father, and for Allan,

Bryan, and Cha Bonifacio, a more supportive siblings. Letting one’s self be vulnerable

about what he/she is feeling, and accepting people again into your life are important steps

towards healing and one’s journey to becoming a better person.

3. Assume that you're the Director in the movie, what modification that you will do to make

it better and why?

If I was the director for the film “Seven Sundays” I would not change a single about

it, the film is the already great the way that it is. It delivers the story about the importance

of family and time being spent with the family with much passion. It pierces through the

Filipino hearts, for Filipinos deeply value family.

I would, however, make a prequel about the siblings’ childhood years. Similar with

the film “Four Sisters Before the Wedding”. This film will highlight the growth of each

Bonifacio sibling and the factors that mold them to become the person they are on the

original film “Seven Sundays”. Here, we can feel and learn more about each sibling, to

really see what makes them human.

4. Lesson learned in the movie?

The importance of family ties and the necessity to place relationships above goods

or individual accomplishments are two of the film's main lessons. The Bonifacio siblings

are from various backgrounds, lifestyles, and each has their own issues that they are facing,

but they understand the value of supporting one another through difficult times.

The idea of forgiving others and letting go of old resentments is another lesson the

movie imparts. The members of the Bonifacio family have their own disputes and

disagreements, but as they spend more time together, they learn to respect and forgive each

other’s shortcomings and begin to develop a closer, more loving bond.

Lastly, "Seven Sundays" highlights the significance of being in the present and

utilizing the time we have with our loved ones to its fullest. The movie encourages its

viewers to cherish the little things in life, such as spending quality time with family or the

people you love, because it is these connections and memories that last.
