STUDENT'S POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE EXPERIENCES IN HYBRID AND ONLINE CLASSES

INTRODUCTION
The Covid-19 pandemic is one of the most dangerous challenges this world has faced in our
lifetime. It is above all a human crisis with severe health and socio-economic consequences. It
significantly disrupted every aspects of human life, including education. The alarming spread of the virus
caused a havoc in the educational system forcing educational institutions to shut down. According to the
study of Onyema E. M., et al (2020), Coronavirus pandemic has adverse effects on education. COVID-19
has major effects on school characteristics, including research, academic programs, Staff professional
development and jobs in the academic sector etc. These effects were felt by both educational
institutions, educators, students and parents and other stakeholders in education. The study emphasizes
the need for adoption of technology in education, as a medium to curb the effects of Coronavirus and
other future pandemics in education.
According to information from the United Nations, 2020, UNESCO, 2020, the pandemic has
caused the greatest disruption to the education systems in history. School closures have impacted 1.6
billion learners (94% of the world’s student population) in over 190 countries. Some of these closures
started in January, but most began during the month of March when the spread engulfed most of the
world. In all cases, school closures have placed unprecedented pressures on governments, educational
institutions, educators, parent and students to ensure learning continuity. With this major impact on
education, it forces students and educators across all levels of education to rapidly adapt to online
learning. Hybrid learning, which combines online and in-person learning, has become increasingly
popular as a result. Hybrid learning has inspired a wide range of reactions, with some parents and
students grateful for the creative solutions schools have come up with, while others have expressed
concerns about the challenges of hybrid learning.
In view of the importance and the need to determine the students’ positive and negative
experiences towards hybrid classes and online class amidst COVID-19, the following study questions are
addressed:

METHODOLOOGY
This study will use both quantitative and qualitative research designs using descriptive analysis,
which aims to gather data and identify students' positive and negative experiences in hybrid and online
classes. The instrument that will be used in this study is a researcher-made questionnaire to gather the
needed data, such as the respondent’s profile and their perspectives on the given questionnaires. The
researchers will conduct a survey by providing questionnaires to the selected college students at
Mindanao State University-Naawan. This research will have 50 respondents, which consists of 10
students in every college department. The gathered data will only be utilized for the analysis of the
study.
