Division Quest: Adaptive Learning Adventure

Materials Needed:

Digital platform or game board

Game cards or question cards (digital or physical)
Playing pieces or avatars (digital or physical)
Instructions:

Set up the Adaptive Learning Adventure: Create a digital platform or game board that
represents an interactive division quest. The quest should consist of various levels or stages,
each focusing on different division concepts and strategies.

Level 1: Division Models (TEKS 5.3D):

Players start at Level 1, where they encounter division problems that require the use of models
such as arrays, equal groups, or number lines. The adaptive learning aspect comes into play by
providing different difficulty levels for each problem based on the player's proficiency. For
example, players who struggle with the concept may be presented with simpler division models,
while more advanced players may be challenged with complex division scenarios.
Players earn points or rewards for correctly solving division problems using models, which can
be used to unlock the next level.

Level 2: Multiplication Facts and Dividing by Multiples of 10 (TEKS 5.3E):

Players progress to Level 2, where they encounter division problems that involve applying
multiplication facts to divide whole numbers by multiples of 10. The adaptive learning aspect
comes into play by adjusting the difficulty of the multiplication facts based on the player's
proficiency. Players who struggle with multiplication facts may be presented with easier
problems, while those who excel may face more challenging scenarios.

Points or rewards are earned for solving these division problems correctly, allowing players to
advance further in the quest.

Level 3: Strategies and Algorithms (TEKS 5.3F):

Players reach Level 3, where they are challenged with division problems that require the use of
strategies and algorithms, including the standard algorithm. The adaptive learning aspect
provides varying levels of complexity for the division problems based on the player's proficiency.
Players who need more practice receive simpler problems, while advanced players are
presented with more difficult calculations.

Points or rewards are awarded for correctly using strategies and algorithms to solve division
problems, enabling players to progress in the quest.
Level 4: Real-World Problem Solving (TEKS 5.3H):

In the final level, players encounter real-world division problems that lead to answers in the
form of fractions or mixed numbers, including equal sharing and grouping situations. The
adaptive learning aspect adjusts the complexity of the problems based on the player's
proficiency. Players who require additional practice receive simpler scenarios, while those who
excel face more challenging real-world problems.

Points or rewards are earned for correctly solving these real-world division problems, allowing
players to complete the quest successfully.

Progression and Feedback: The game keeps track of each player's progress, providing feedback
and guidance throughout the quest. Players can earn badges or achievements for milestones
reached or skills mastered.

By combining gamification elements with adaptive learning strategies in the "Division Quest"
activity, students can engage in a personalized learning experience tailored to their individual
proficiency levels, while addressing the division concepts outlined in the TEKS being used.
