Statistical Treatment

This study is quasi experimental; in this design, the researcher divided participants
into
an experimental group and control group. Before undertaking the experiment, both
groups took pre –tests to measure their proficiency in writing skill and vocabulary
enrichment. After conducting the experiment, the same test was repeated as post- test
to investigate any significant differences between the groups.
The design of the study is portrayed as follows:
Where:
EG: Experimental group.
CG: Control group.
O1: Writing test.
O2: Vocabulary test.
X: Facebook treatment.

Results of the study

Results related to the first question
Are there any statistically significant differences (α=0.05) in the writing mean scores of
sophomore students that can be attributed to the effect of the teaching method (i.e.
Facebook vs. conventional)?

To answer this question, means and standard deviations were calculated on pre and post
measure of the writing measure dimensions according to the teaching method between
the control group and the experimental group.

Table (4) Means and standard deviations of the pre and post measure of both groups
with regard to the writing dimensions according to the teaching method

This study uses Pre-Test and Post Test Method. The researchers utilize the Phil-Iri
Pre-Test Result as the baseline of the Comprehension Level of the respondents before the
usage of Facebook and the Phil-Iri Post Test Result after the duration of the Facebook
Usage.
To answer if there is significant relationship between Facebook usage and
students’reading comprehension, a manual count of how many will be in Independent
Level, Instructional Level, Developing and Frustration Level will be done and be
compared to the number in each level before the implementation of Facebook.

To determine the frequency of the respondents usage of Facebook, the researchers

will utilize the use of Google Form to collect data easily and be accessible to all.
