Modeling has become a central component in river basin management and surface water
assessment tools; on such river as Niger where more effort is needed to improve understanding of
hydrological processes by riverside country researchers and decision-makers, handling and
enhancing models are good ways to merge towards an efficient Framework. We used a
framework with 2 parameters and 3 input variables to simulate the output of 16 watersheds on
Niger River and its tributaries over 50 years. The first parameter of the model controls all its 3
input variables and the second controls its output. We modified an existing Water Balance Model
WBM)-Genie Rural at 2 parameters and Monthly time step (GR2M), which previously had its
first parameter that controlled only 2 of its 3 input information. Based on an inter-comparison
approach of different versions of a model (either varying the influence of the controlling
parameter on input informetion or dealing with a global or semi-distributed structure), we showed
che high performance and the validity of the proposed framework. Our results demonstrate that, in
conceptual modeling, enlarz< the influence of the input-controlling-parameter to all the input
ariables allows more flexibility to models to simulate output information with good accuracy. At
zach time step, this parameter is directly applied to the variables rain and evaporate-transpiration
id its inverse is applied to the variable Water Holding Capacity. The other parameter controls
model output. The modification from a 2-input-controlled-variables to a 3-input-controlled-
ibles, in the framework, produced an improvement in simulation results both in global and in
--mi-global modeling. This proposed framework on Simulation of Hydrological systems is called
SimulHfyd. It would be interesting to repeat this study on other regions data and to apply the same
modification on other Water Balance Models that showed some efficiency on Niger River.
Key words: Niger River basin, hydrological Modeling, Water Holding Capacity, Water
lance Model, Simulhyd, Inter-comparison, framework accuracy.
