INTELLIGENCE
Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the
ability of machines or computer systems to
mimic and perform tasks that typically
require human intelligence. It involves the
development of algorithms and models that
enable computers to analyze, understand,
and interpret information, learn from
experiences, and make decisions or take
actions based on that knowledge.
CONCURRENT
4

ENGINEERING
Concurrent engineering (CE) is a collaborative
approach to product development that
involves multiple disciplines working together
simultaneously. With the use of AI
Concurrent engineering can be greatly
enhanced.
5

CASE STUDY
• During space mission in NASA jet
propulsion lab scientists integrated AI
based Agent to support human experts
for concurrent engineering sessions.
• They named this agent as Design
Engineering Assistant (DEA).
• the study was divided into three phases:
• preparation phase
• Study phase
• Post processing phase

DESIGN
OPTIMIZATION
AI algorithms can analyze design alternatives,
evaluate their performance, and suggest
optimal solutions. By considering various
factors and constraints from different
engineering disciplines, AI can help identify
designs that meet multiple criteria and
improve overall product performance.
8

KNOWLEDGE
MANAGEMENT
Concurrent engineering involves coordinating
the knowledge and expertise of different
team members. AI can help capture,
organize, and retrieve knowledge from
various sources, including previous projects,
technical documents, and expert insights.
This facilitates knowledge sharing, reduces
duplication of efforts, and enhances
collaboration

DECISION SUPPORT
SYSTEM
AI can provide decision support by analyzing
large amounts of data and providing
recommendations to engineers. It can
process information from multiple sources,
such as design requirements, manufacturing
capabilities, cost models, and customer
feedback, to help engineers make informed
decisions during the concurrent engineering
process.
10

SIMULATION AND
ANALYSIS
AI algorithms can automate and accelerate
simulations, allowing engineers to evaluate
multiple design scenarios and assess their
performance quickly. This helps in identifying
potential issues and optimizing the design
early in the development cycle.
11

RISK ASSESSMENT
AND MITIGATION
AI algorithms can analyze historical data and
identify potential risks associated with design
choices, manufacturing processes, or supply
chain disruptions. This allows engineers to
proactively address these risks and develop
mitigation strategies, minimizing the impact
on project timelines and budgets.
COLLABORATION AND
12

COMMUNICATION

AI-powered tools can facilitate collaboration

among team members by providing real-time
communication channels, document sharing
platforms, and project management systems.
These tools enable seamless information
exchange, task coordination, and progress
tracking, fostering effective concurrent
engineering practices.

It's important to note that while AI can bring

numerous benefits to concurrent engineering, it
should be seen as a supportive tool rather than a
replacement for human expertise. Human
judgment and domain knowledge remain crucial
in interpreting AI-generated insights, making final
decisions, and ensuring that ethical considerations
are taken into account throughout the process.
