SUBJECT 4- CHEMISTRY

1. 4.0 g of NaOH is present in one deciliter of solution. Calculate: (i) Mole fraction of NaOH
(ii) Molarity of solution (iii) Molality of solution

2. Find the molarity and molality of a 15% solution w/w of H2SO4. Given:

(Density of H2SO4 = 1.02 g cm-3)

3. One liter of seawater weighs 1050 grams and contains 6x 10-3g of dissolved oxygen in ppm.

4. Mole fraction of helium in a saturated solution at 20oC is 1.2 x 10-6. Find out the pressure of
helium above the solution. Given that at 20oC, Henry’s Law Constant (KH = 144.97 k bar)

5. An aqueous ideal solution of liquid ‘X’ (molecular mass56)28% by weight has a vapour pressure
of 150mm. Find the vapour pressure of ‘X’ if vapour pressure of water is 155mm Hg.

6. The vapour pressure of pure water at 20oC is 17.5 mm Hg. A solution of sucrose is prepared by
dissolving 68.4 g of sucrose in 1000 g of water. Calculate the vapour pressure of the solution.

7. What weight of solute (molecular mass = 60) is required to be dissolved in 180 g of water to
reduce the vapour pressure to 4/5th of pure water?

8. The boiling point of a solution containing 50 g of a non-volatile solute in 1 kg of a solvent is
